Skip the mint on the pillow and heads straight for wild animals, private igloos and breathtaking fish-eye views. The amenities at these hotels make others’ look like simple bed and board. Here are five of the most outrageous hotel features available around the world.

Conrad Maldives

An Edible Underwater Adventure

Only accessible by seaplane flight, the Conrad Maldives located on Rangali Island in the Indian Ocean offers snorkeling with whale sharks, mini-submarine dives and prime spots for manta ray watching, but the real “wow” factor lies in the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, a glass-encased dining facility located 16 feet below sea level. Featuring 180-degree views of ocean habitat, multi-course meals here are as scrumptious as they are breathtaking. Of course, if hanging out above ground is more your thing, head to the Over-Water Spa for a body treatment with panoramic ocean views.

Igloo For Two

Cozy up underneath walls of ice in North America’s only hotel made of ice. At Hotel de Glace in Quebec City, wannabe Inuits can cozy up in Nordic sleeping bags in rooms made almost entirely of ice. Open yearly from January through March 24th, the hotel features 44 rooms and themed suites, some of which come with fireplaces and private spas. In addition to sleeping accommodations, Hotel de Glace also boasts an ice chapel for weddings, an ice slide, an ice bar for thirsty nights and the opportunity to go dog sledding.

A Wild Ride

Housekeeping probably won’t wake you up, but the more exotic guests at Giraffe Manor may. Located next to 140 acres of indigenous forest, this Nairobi, Kenya hotel is also home to endangered Rothschild giraffes who freely poke their heads through hotel windows to dine with human guests. In addition to making long-necked friends, you also might encounter warthogs, hyenas and more than 180 species of birds nearby. If you’re looking for even more wild encounters, take a day trip from Giraffe Manor to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where you can rub shoulders with baby elephants and rhinos.

The Jailbird Experience

It’s true that the Liberty Hotel in Boston is located in an old prison, but this slammer is anything but bare-bones. Formerly the Charles Street Jail, a night at this now-luxury locale includes complimentary Saturday yoga classes and a free “running concierge” who leads fitness-focused patrons along jogs through Boston’s scenic views during spring and summer. At night, head down to the in-house bar, aptly named CLINK., to munch on locally-sourced noshes in a jail cells-turned-lounges.

Going Natural

Views from a typical hotel window pale in comparison to a 360-degree view of the great outdoors. Instead of booking a typical hotel, Attrap’Reves clients book a room set in a luxury see-through bubble that’s literally been plopped down in the center of nature. Located throughout the French countryside, each bubble only includes sleeping quarters, but restroom facilities are always close by. Patrons can also upgrade and have a masseuse come visit their bubble during their stay.
