Come May 11-12, the City of Brotherly Love just might gain another nickname: the City of Strong Backs. Once again, Philadelphia will host the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate rowing regatta in the United States with more than 100 universities participating from the United States and Canada. Dating back to 1934, the event continues to be one of the city’s most exciting traditions — and the perfect excuse to book a Philadelphia vacation. The free event runs on both days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pack a picnic lunch or buy snacks in the food court to enjoy along the Schuylkill River. For more information on parking and shuttles, visit the event site.

Hotels near the event
The Club Quarters at Philadelphia is a Center City hotel located near Rittenhouse Square with room rates starting at $244 over regatta weekend.  The Hyatt at the Bellevue is located in a National Historic Landmark building.  The hotel features XIX a café and bar located on the 19th floor with beautiful views of Philadelphia.  Rates start at $329 for that weekend.

Insider tip: Philadelphia’s famous South Street buzzes with flavor thanks to more than 300 shops and 60 restaurants. And if you’re a cheesteak fan, visit local fave Jim’s Steaks at 400 South St., where the classic sammy bursts with hot shreds of beef and gooey American or provolone cheese.
