What gets girlfriends giddy? A Manhattan shopping trip and a fancy hotel. (Pictured: Gansevoort Park NYC)

By Susan Johnston

It’s been a hellish winter, and nothing breaks us out of the winter blues like a new wardrobe and spring break getaway with your friends. Manhattan is the ultimate destination for sprucing up your wardrobe and catching up with friends, so we’ve chosen four stylish New York hotels near chic shopping districts.

Gansevoort Park NYC
Splashes of bold pink and royal blue against starkwhite give this über-modern hotel its sleek, magazine-worthy appeal. Since opening earlier this year, the hotel has already wowed guests with its lofty ceiling and tri-level rooftop, complete with rooftop pool. It’s also near shopping and popular attractions like the Empire State Building and Gramercy Park. After a long day of shopping or sightseeing, guests can unwind with a glass of wine at the rooftop bar or indulge at the Cutler Salon and Exhale Spa.

The Waldorf Astoria
Since its opening in 1893, the Waldorf Astoria has attracted celebrities, dignitaries, and other guests of distinguished taste. Its proximity to Radio City Music Hall, the shops along Fifth Avenue, and the renowned Magnolia Bakery makes the Waldorf Astoria an ideal hotel for those who want classic New York elegance and a convenient location. The hotel also offers a fitness center, high-speed internet, and several on-site restaurants.

Hotel Plaza Athenee
Just a block from Madison Avenue on the fashionable Upper East Side of Manhattan, this charming boutique hotel offers 142 guestrooms and suites. It’s also within walking distance of Central Park and several museums. The Hotel Plaza Athenee’s décor evokes the grandeur of opulent European-style homes in old New York. Guests appreciate the hotel’s first-rate service and quiet, yet luxurious surroundings.

Tribeca Grand Hotel
The Tribeca Grand Hotel offers luxurious yet laidback accommodations complete with a stunning atrium, Egyptian cotton linens, pillow-top mattresses, a private film screening room, even a pet goldfish given to guests upon arrival. Here you can browse Tribeca’s high-end boutiques or walk to SoHo for a mix of upscale department stores and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Guests rave about the hotel’s cheerful doorman, its relaxed vibe, and its location near several different subway lines.
