La Quinta Resort & Club, Palm Springs

La Quinta Resort & Club, Palm Springs

By Brooke Lenzi

A friend’s wedding took me to Palm Desert, in the geographic center of the Coachella Valley and a mere two-hour drive from Los Angeles. Preparing to exit off the 10 freeway, the picturesque Santa Rosa Mountains and warm breezy air of this bright little city welcomed me in and hugged metight. This gloriously mellow city, such a short drive away, had me wondering why my California vacations hadn’t brought me there sooner.

Soon after arriving at one of the larger California hotels, the gigantic 26-square-mile La Quinta Resort & Club, I downshifted into restful relaxation mode. The Spanish-style architecture and lush, colorful landscaping melted my heart. I was lucky enough to have my own private villa that resembled a guest house, making me feel comfortable and right at home. Besides getting lost everytime I left my villa, the resort was quite comfortable. Everything seemed so accessible, with its 42 pools, 52 hot tubs, 5 restaurants and 23 tennis courts. I could do or not do anything I pleased. Other than attend an apropos mellow wedding less than a mile from the resort, I spent my trip lounging by the pool, sipping on smoothies and only lifting a finger when those strong UV rays called for more sunscreen.

I plan on exploring a few activities Palm Desert has to offer during upcoming California vacations: shopping, art galleries, outdoor trails, and attending world-class golf tournaments. Have I mentioned I’m kicking myself for not making it there sooner?
