US Airways increases checked baggage fees

US Airways is the latest carrier to increase its checked baggage fees.

Effective today for flights on or after Feb. 1, checked baggage fees go up to $25 (each way) for the first bag and $35 for the second. Travelers who check bags in advance through the airline’s Web site pay slightly less : $23 for the first bag; $32 for the second.

The new checked baggage fees apply to all flights except those between the U.S. and Europe, South America and the Middle East. Certain travelers are exempt.
