I explained in a previous post why Atlantis is a
great place for a family vacation. But there’s plenty of action for grown-ups traveling without kids, whether it’s for a chick trip, a guys’ getaway or a romantic Bahamas vacation.

Here are a few ideas about where to stay and what to do:

The Cove: This is the no-brainer
first choice for people who want a quieter visit. You’ll get access to the
too-cool-for school Cain pool and outdoor casino area and avoid the rush of
families swarming over the rest of the property.

Royal Towers: This is the epicenter of Atlantis action. Housing the huge
casino, all the upscale restaurants, the nightclub, and closest-to-the-water
activities and the spa, this is the place for adults who spell Party with a
capital "P."

Harborside Resort: For the couple who wants to be out
on the water diving or sailing, Harborside is the closest walk to the marina,
and the spot with the space to keep your gear. For the more tennis/golf types,
any of the accommodations will do, as a shuttle ride is required to access
those facilities.

Adult amenities and actvities:

Cain: Doing its best to be part Vegas, South Beach and the Bahamas at the
same time, Cain is the new adult-only pool, bar, and outdoor casino aimed at upscale
revelers looking to live the high life. It has loud music pumping everywhere,
bright swim-on red mattresses in the middle of the pool, and staff members
waiting to help you choose between mojitos and the way-less-cool margaritas.

Spa: More Asia than Atlantis,
the spa is going for the Zen retreat feel. Dark stained wood, black lacquer, a
color therapy installation in the whirpool area. The decor wasn’t exactly my
thing, but the massage was by far one of the best I have ever had, anywhere. My
therapist was knowledgeable without needing to ask any questions, eased a
problem I’ve had in my back forever, and knew how to stay quiet. Going to Atlantis without using the spa should be a crime.

Snuba: Fear not. Thanks to a helmet and some tubes, the "wonders
of the deep" are no longer reserved just for Jacques Cousteau or people
with Scuba certifications. Snuba is an airtight helmet allowing people to
breathe as normally as they would on land. Guests can do snuba in the Mayan Temple, where they can interact with sharks (one of the 399 non-human eating variety)
and other fish.

Other adult activities:

  • Casino
  • Aura Nightclub
  • Sail Nassau on an America’s
    Cup Yacht
