The hotel was clean, friendly staff and a great free breakfast! Our room was ok, bed too small though, needs to be kingsize, what let it down was the shower it was terrible with absolutley no power we did mention this to the manager and was told they are very old and need updating, some people have criticised the breakfast here but have no idea why, we found it to be excellent, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, toast, pastries and cereals and hot food available was bacon, sausages and beans all hot and very tasty, nothing to complain about at all, overall we were happy with our stay.
This place was very disappointing. We got a room on the second floor and there were no elevators (had to carry our checked luggage up the stairs). Not much parking available and the room was very disappointing. Bathroom was tiny (no soap or shampoo provided). Pillows had stains on them, and the whole place smelled like wet paint. I would have to say that we paid double what this place is worth. I would advise to go to the Ascot house or book an airbnb instead.
This Hoilday Inn Express is of the usual standard. Clean, well-appointed room, with adequate space. The large car park is shared with the nearby carvery and can be busy but there are lots of spaces. A small disadvantage is that there is no lift in the hotel but the friendly receptionists carried our luggage up and down. In fact all the staff were cheery and helpful. The included breakfast is good value for money. But, as I have commented previously, I cannot understand how they make the scrambled eggs so tasteless (nit picking, I know). Overall a good experience and HIE will remain our first choice.
Rooms clean and tidy. Good parking. The staff is exceptionally helpful. The hotel is on the outskirts of York, so transport is definitely required, although the hotel has an arrangement with a local taxi firm which is reasonably priced. Park and ride is available nearby. DRIVING IN YORK IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. The restaurant is only available for breakfast, but lunches and evening meals can be obtained from the adjacent carvery for a reasonable price.
Stayed for here for 3 nights and have stayed in a few Holiday Inn Express hotels. This felt a little tired but was clean and we were greeted with friendly and helpful reception staff. When we stay in HIE the beds are small and always ask for the sofa bed to be made up. I was disappointed when we arrived as I had emailed the hotel a couple of days earlier to request the sofa bed was made up and when we checked in we were told it was made up. When we went into the room it wasn’t made up. Whilst the hotel made up the bed when we went out for dinner next door and were very accommodating it should have been made up in advance. Room was at the beginning of the corridor and on Saturday night it was very noisy with people coming back to their rooms and talking loudly without any consideration of other guests. If you do stay on a Saturday and don’t want to be disturbed in the early hours I would suggest asking for a room away from the stairs in the reception area. Breakfast is standard for HIE and was good. The restaurant has blue lights in it and feels as if you are in a “disco” and feels dated - just needs normal lighting in there. Hotel is near to monks cross shopping centre and park and ride for getting into York centre.
Good comfortable base with varied breakfast options. As there is a Toby Carvery next door and Monks Cross just down the road, there are several good eating options. Located to the north of the City, the ring road/bypass makes navigation easy.
Friendly staff, rooms descent size, fresh and clean , tv in room and free wi fi , only downside our room was above the dining area and you could here chairs being pushed back and forward in the dining area , pads on the chairs could probably avoid this ! Staff were friendly , close to York and park and ride and monks cross shopping centre
We took our daughter to York for her birthday and stayed here for the night. Brilliant room great breakfast and Karolina on the front desk was very friendly cheerful and helpful. We will be back again. Thank you
Staff were very helpful one of our favourite hotels up to now were going back next week, nice an quite and nice breakfast staff were pleasant and the rooms were OK comfy bed to cant complain at that price
My husband and I stayed here for the weekend. Although the hotel is not in the city centre of York, it is very close to the Park & Ride. It costs only £3.20 return pp for this and we found this to be great. It drops right in the city centre. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff are great. However, the bed we had was very uncomfortable and had "roll together". the mattress was that bad that during I night I had to get out the sofa bed and ring down for another duvet at 12.30 at night (which they obliged). The hotel is very quiet and though on a main road you cannot hear traffic. The breakfast itself was good. If you want an evening meal, the hotel itself does not accommodate this though next door is a Toby Carvery. Also, our window in the bedroom was broken as it would not close!
