The property was close to all the main attractions of York. The breakfast was fantastic. Our's was a family room, which was clean and spacious, with comfortable beds, and a large bathroom. There was plenty of off St. Parking. The proprietors were friendly and very knowledgable about the area and happy to help out.

Relaxed property that had family sleeping options for my husband and our two teenage daughters. Not lots of these options in England. Property was clean, comfortable and provided serval simple breakfast options. Walkable into York. Overall very enjoyable stay

Very nice made to order breakfast; walkable to city sights, spacious bedroom.

I had a great experience at this B+B. The staff was very friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The shower was great and the bed and pillow very comfortable. They have complimentary water bottles at your convenience and the parking is free.

My wife and I stayed at The Groves for four nights at the beginning of October. The staff are friendly, the rooms clean, and the location is convenient. We were greeted on arrival and every morning. All of the staff were polite and friendly. The room and the building were very clean. Often hotels in old buildings such as The Groves aren't so clean. Not true here. Our room was spotless. The hotel is located about half of a block down a small street which is off of a main street. The walled city is a short and pleasant walk. The hotel has a parking lot that is free for guest. It is small and parking can be tight but it worked out fine for us even arriving late. There is a small pub in the hotel that is staffed by the receptionist. Both times my wife and I were in it, we were the only people there. Even the bar tender left after getting us a drink so it was absolutely quiet but for us. There is no food and a very limited selection of ales. In a pinch, it works for a pint or two but it's not a destination or the kind of place to spend a few hours. The hotel is an old building. The stairways are tight and the rooms relatively small. It is quaint and we liked it; however, it is not modern and convenient. The stairways are a bit difficult to navigate and the floors creaked in some places. There were no electrical outlets near the nightstand, and the bathroom quite small, etc. The bottom line: The Groves is comfortable, clean, quiet, the location is good, and the staff are friendly. I will stay at The Groves again. Oh, did I mention it is a good value?

I would gladly recommend this hotel. All the staff were super friendly and very helpful. Cleanliness is usually at the top of my list and the Groves was in tip top shape, pride in ownership is obvious when the owner is on premises doing maintenance. The full English breakfast was a good start to the day. Ten minute easy walk to York Minister made the location perfect.

I really enjoyed this guest house. My room was large and very nicely done. The old home was lovely and had a lot of character to it. The breakfast was excellent. It was on a nice quiet street. It was a bit of a walk to the city centre, but otherwise everything was wonderful.
