Hilton Yaounde

This hotel seems to think that as it is possibly really only the show in town that they can charge high prices. Be that as it may, it remains poorly maintained and the service overall is poor. Food is bland and what there is doesn't offer much choice - especially is you are staying there for more than a few days.

This hotel is falling apart it needs a major overhaul.. ac units don't work, carpet are old and full of mildew. I have been using this hotel for 5 years.. not anymore. There are better options for your money.

I know hilton and what to expect but this one was a disappointment. The building looks overly imposing with clear sense of opulence on display. Located in the heart of Yaounde. Entering the hotel, you are greeted with this old musty smell which never gets away. The front desk staff generally ok but I was at the receiving end of some poor customer service when I needed them. Anyway rooms are spacious but very damp as well. No complimentary water although there is tea and coffee complimentary. Food is really not good. Toiletries are good though I still expect better for hilton. All in all it was a disappointing experience for me in this Hilton. Not sure what alternatives there are in Yaounde but definitely worth exploring

The place is globally overrated. The building is old, and not amazingly built. The food is good but way too expensive (more expensive that in good restaurants in Europe, for a lower quality). In Switzerland, this hotel would reach 3 or 4 stars maximum, and would be on the lower end of the nice places.

Was traveling on business with a day of leisure at the end. Booked an executive room, got upgraded to a nice and spacious corner room. The check-in staff was courteous and helpful... The room was nice, with a large balcony with a nice view... the weather is nice in Yaounde so it's always a pleasure to get some fresh air on the balcony. The bedding was up to Hilton standards; breakfast buffet was great with numerous options from all over the world. Security is also not an issue in this hotel with lots of security personnel all over the property! Now the not so great part... firstly, bathrooms need to be renovated, for an hotel of this standard it's not acceptable to have subpar toilets and showers that have clearly not been renewed for at least a decade! Secondly, the hotel room rate are expensive for what you get... and the taxes are absolutely horrendous and ridiculous! How can you pay $50 in taxes per day... that really shocked me; the hotel should also show all their prices taxes included, because as a customer I really don't care if the money goes to the hotel or to the government, at the end of the day I have to pay for it. I think this hotel needs some competition and I hope it comes soon, currently it is alone in its class; which explains the monopolistic pricing!

The staff is very friendly and helpful, both at the reception and especially at breakfast, which itself has a very good buffet. Rooms are spacious with a good bed but somewhat old-fashioned carpet and curtains Again, thanks to the staff for a pleasant stay!

Like many hotels in Africa, the facility shows its age, but the beds are comfortable and the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The buffets are a bit pricey, but the food is excellent. On Friday night they had a poolside seafood buffet with international options and live music. I look forward to my next stay.

Probably one of the best secured hotels in Africa. Welcoming front desk staff. They offered us a payable club room upgrade including a late checkout which was way cheaper than a half day rate for the late checkout we needed. One of the biggest standard rooms I've ever stayed in with all amenities. Clean enough but not super clean as expected in this price range. Good breakfast. Above average for African standards. Clean pool area. Nice and cosy lobby bar. Great rooftop bar. Overall a good hotel but way too expensive. 300 USD plus a night.

It is very old and tired hotel. Room cleaning is poor. Breakfast is medium. Outdoor swimming pool was dirty not clean for swimming. Internet is quite strong. The hotel for first night charged my double price while my company has agreement with them for a corporate rate. No solution can be reached. if I do not take actions I might have ended up paying a lot. Generally Hilton Honor program app is not showing correct rates. Much different rates than if you contact the call center.

I stayed at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel the day it was inaugurated nearly thirty years ago. It was truly a five star international hotel at the time. Over the years, I have been saddened to watch its lustre steadily removed to the point today where it is only referred to as a five star hotel in Cameroon. During my most recent stay there from 22 to 24 February 2018, I stayed in a room which confirmed the hotel’s continued decline in luxury and international standards. Although the hotel structure is solid and testifies to the Cameroon Government’s ambitions to build a top notch world class hotel, management has not always matched the Government’s ambitions or the iconic standards associated with the Hilton brand. As a result, what we have today is a disappointing shadow of what the hotel was when it first opened . The elegance and luxury have faded, almost disappeared, not only in the quality of some of the rooms that have not been renovated, but also in the quality of the food and drinks served . The only noticeable area of consistent improvement and outstanding performance is the quality of service provided by the hardworking and cheerful staff who warmly welcome guests on arrival and strive to provide optimal support throughout a guest’s stay. I sometimes feel sorry when a guest uses the attending staff member to vent a guest’s frustration with the hotel’s many shortcomings . This remains a beautiful édifice backed by an enthusiastic and professional staff. If management decides to commit the resources to renovate the hotel and to upgrade its services, its original lustre can be restored and it can at last become the five star international hotel its owners, the Cameroon Government, always wanted it to be.
