My colleagues and I stayed here while having meetings in Xiamen. I was fortunate enough to have good WiFi speed in the room even if the room was a bit small. My colleagues had terrible internet speed --- very slow! At breakfast I noticed that that the clientele were mostly business people from Asia, rather than tourists. So, for the price, it must be a decent place to go to for Asian businessmen. There was only 1 Western looking person at breakfast the 5 days I stayed there. Breakfast was buffet style but nothing exceptional. The room just felt so warm. I was sweating!... When I gave feedback about it, they said most guests felt cold so they put up the heater temp. Even if I set the room thermostat at 15c it still felt warm. Good thing they gave me a portable temperature controller that cools or heats the room. That worked in making the room more comfortable! I would like to commend the Front Desk Manager or Supervisor who was on duty at arnd 11 o' clock in the evening of December 4, 2017. I had moved rooms and was slightly upset because they just transferred my suitcases and forgot to transfer my pants and jackets.from the previous room. When I was looking for my clothes, pretty young receptionist from front desk asked me to come down to front desk to get the key from the previous room to transfer my clothes myself! (Whoa! That's a first! ) Nevermind, I was still good- natured at this point. So, I proceeded to take the elevator downstairs. It was a surprise that the elevator suddenly stopped on the 12th floor. Nobody got on... hmmm, strange!... The corridor was dark unlike other floors so it was really creepy. I pressed the close button and pressed 1 for the lobby level. The elevator doors would close and still stay on the 12th floor.... This happened twice! I was totally creeped out that I might get stuck inside the elevator so I moved out and transferred elevators! It was quite upsetting! So naturally I was so incensed when pretty young receptionist told me to just go back to my room because there was a mistake and they'll just bring my clothes to my new room! ... I had already changed to my night clothes when I was asked to go down so I had to change to outside clothes just to go down. This is where I appreciated Front Desk Manager/Supervisor. He was calm and sympathetic. He listened to my woes. Thank you very much Sir! Instead of transferring to an old, smelly room on a smoke-filled floor, I decided to go back to my no smoking floor where the room was newly-renovated and clean even if it was small. So, even if the room and structure seem old, people frequent the hotel because some of the people are quite good!
I agree with many of the reviews that it is a bit dated, but for this area the value is quite good, which is why it earns 4 stars. It does feel a bit more Chinese than this western brand would indicate, but they do try hard to accommodate. Breakfast is OK, mostly Chinese, but enough western items to satisfy, and good service from staff. The rooms are a bit worn, and the only real downside I find is the bathroom is very small, especially for the suite I was in. I shouldn't complain as it was an upgrade due to my status, but for a long stay I would find it a bit cramped.
If this hotel were of other brand, I might not be disappointed, but since it bears the Ramada name, I personally feel that the hotel condition falls short of its brand. It needs certain upgrades and renovations for sure as the room has shown its age. The staffs are VERY helpful though and willing to go the extra step to fulfill your needs.
This hotel is centrally located in the city and is only 15 to 20 minutes from the airport. The building itself is old, though reasonably updated. The room is large except that the bathroom is very small. The buffet breakfast is more than adequate. The best is their service. Every staff greeted customers with smiles, carry our luggages in and out of the hotel, press elevator buttons for us, and serve us with attentiveness during breakfast buffet.
It's not fancy by any definition, however the warmth it brings cannot be found anywhere else. Great location nice breakfast and the best staff. They have cookies in the hallway each floor, and housekeeping crew are so attentive and considerate with the smallest details . Price is right too!! You will not be disappointed .
Xiamen is sub-tropical (I hope this is the correct term) and as such it has that warm/damp challenge of many places at this latitude. This means the rooms have that subtle mildew smell... thick carpeting likely doesn't help. We were there for a large event, and the rooms we were in varied greatly, from tiny to large. All showed some deferred maintenance. The food, however, was consistent and of a good quality. Aside from issues around currency conversion and deposits, the service was exceptional. In fact, the service perhaps is the best thing about the place! We are back in a year, and if this is the event hotel again, we won't look for another option. However, if I were there for pure tourism, I might choose a different location. It all comes down to expectations, I think.
Nice hotel very helpful staff spacious rooms clean a little to far from everything but taxis are plenty and cheap. Breakfast is a little low in selection and western selection is poor, Bacon is so over cooked, not every one likes bacon brittle. Even a request to the staff several times still resulted in brittle bacon so we decided to eat outside. Over all nice hotel but with more searching could have found a better located and a better serviced.
I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2016. Taxi from airport to hotel was less than RMB30 and took about 20 minutes. The hotel showed signs of age. The lobby was a wee dark and not very welcoming. Checking-in was smooth although the staff (along with almost every other staff in the hotel) had only a very minimal, if any, command of English. No instructions were given on room wifi (although it was available and free in the room) or any facilities in the hotel. I had to ask if my rates included breakfast. This minimalistic communication could be down to the staff’s lack of confidence in conversing in English. Therefore, it would be useful if you could speak Mandarin; conversely, you may be in for some ride if you can't speak Mandarin. The double-bed room was reasonable in size. There was a lingering tobacco smell, which was not quite surprising given that smoking was allowed in all rooms (as far as I knew) and in all parts of the hotel. There were again signs of age e.g. stained carpet, water-damaged cupboard door. Room safe was available. 2 bottles of water were provided free per day. Toiletries were adequate although no shavers were issued. Many wall sockets available which would be useful for the power hungry. Housekeeping was reasonable although there was a day when they removed both my bath robes without replacing them. Breakfast was on the ground floor and started from 6.30 am. Reasonable spread of mainly local dishes plus bread, fruits etc. I also tried the Japanese restaurant on level 2 where the food prices were reasonable and the waitresses attentive. There was a gymnasium, a foot massage place and rooms for mah-jong on level 5. Body massage was available in the rooms from RMB380 to RMB680. The vouchers in the room could be used to get RMB100 discounts off massages. There were no major attractions in the vicinity although there were small shops selling sundries, food, clothings etc within walking distance. The closest attraction was the Xiamen Museum which was about 15 minutes’ walk away. The Sports Centre was also walking distance away. The Songbai river was just round the corner and made for a quiet post-meal walk. I also walked to SM Mall and that took me about 45 minutes. Taxis were plentiful in the vicinity. I paid about US$70 per night which, despite all the shortcomings, was I thought quite attractive. Apart from the price though, I am not sure why any visitor would want to choose this hotel.
Stayed there for 3 weeks for business. It is not a luxury hotel, however with the price I paid, i trully think it is a great hotel because it was far exceed my expectation. I was upgraded to a newly renovated room (16th floor) without additional charge, maybe due to my 3 weeks stay. I like the hotel very much and I would definitely stay here again if I visit Xiamen again! These are some of my comments: Room- not big for you to add another bed, but overall it is fine. The rooms at 16th floor are nice, heard that they just refurbished it not long ago. Breakfast- It offers great varieties and I'm ok to have it for 3 weeks. But it could be even greater if the menu could be changed a little bit. wifi- high speed internet in room, I was happy with that. Location- Good location. Near to many eateries, convenient shops, food stalls laundry & etc. SERVICE- This is the part i love most about the hotel! The young boys at the concierge are always polite and helpful! The room is always refilled with fruites and cookies after they cleaned it.The housekeeping team (floor 16th) was very detail and care about customer needs: the lady helped me to get all the necessaries without I speak out the request. For example, prepare me a small rack in bathroom for my toiletries, a rack and some more cloth hanger because she aware I washed cloths at the room, a vase for me as she notices I bought some flowers, a knife for me as she noticed I bought some fruites! I found the lady and I told her, I' ve staying at more than 50 hotels in the past five years, including 5 stars hotel in different part of the world, but I have never experienced this kind of great house keeping. (Hi Manager, please give the lady an increment if you see this) The only complaint is about the loyalty card. I applied the card because I aware the program. The font desk staff didn't ask if I am the member of the loyalty program and if I want to apply one. And when I checked out, I was informed that the points only will be collected on my 2nd visit. What kind of program is this? I should easily earn at least 1 or 2 free night for similar royalty programs for a 3 weeks stay (I have H Honour and Accors card as well). Anyway, I really like Ramada Xiamen and happy to stay here again.
The Ramada was not particularly conveniently located compared to other hotels, but it's more economical. When I arrived at my floor, the elevator door opened to an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. The room was no better, if not worse. The cigarette smell permeated everything -- the sofa, the carpet, the bed, the chair, and the curtains! When I called for a change of rooms, I was told that there were only smoking rooms left. The front desk recommended a "non-smoking treatment", which turned out to be sending someone to the room to take away the (clean) ashtray and spray air freshener all around the room! The smell aside, the entire hotel was aging and did not look particularly clean. The bathroom was spartan, except for an oddly placed fish ornament on the wall above the water closet. The lighting inside was poor. The breakfast was relatively good compared to other Ramada's in China. If I have to choose again, I will pay more for another hotel.
