IntercityHotel Wuppertal4.0 out of 5.0

The hotel needs a ground-up renovation. We found nothing that wasn't worn down. Starting from the button to call the elevator (which had been remodelled multiple times and now is just a loosely hanging box near the elevator), the scratched surfaces in the elevator (giving it an subway train feeling), the scratch marks on the carpet, the wholes in the blinds etc. etc. Best was that the hotel asks 12€ for the night to park your car, whilst the newly build garage on the other side of the road asks for 3€ and enough free parking spaces in the street are available.
The InterCity Hotel Wuppertal was alright – not terrible, not great – just adequate. The entire property could use some sprucing up and updating. For example, about half the hallway lights on the fifth floor were either burned out or broken, making the walk to our room rather gloomy. In the room, there were what looked like old stains on the fabric headboard. During the summer, when the sun comes up early and remains up late into the evening, the room could really use some blackout curtains instead of the thin yellow ones there now. Would I stay there again? Maybe. However, if another property opens close to the main train station, I will go there instead since proximity to the station is the main benefit of this hotel.
We stayed for 4 days at the hotel, 2 adults and an infant. First impression is that it is impossible to find the access to the parking facility and it is very narrow, so don't bring a large family size car. After unloading the large amount of baggage and pram for the infant, we found that there is no handicap access from the parking facility to the hotel, so we had to carry the pram with the infant up and down stairs when going somewhere. The hotel suffers from a year long construction basically cutting it from the central part of the city. While it is probably out of their hands, no effort has gone into making it easy for the occupants to get to the city. We found out the last day, that it would be possible to take a shortcut through the gloomy parking garage IF you happen to bring your parking ticket, but we had not. There was no information from the hotel staff about this. The least pleasant experience was the bedbugs. I don't know if this is customary in German hotels, but the staff seemed to be very matter-of-fact when I told them about the bedbugs after haven been bitten the first night there. Apparently they will deal with the problem sometime during September according to the staff. Image how comfortable you would feel sleeping with your infant in such a place... Finally, if you are sensitive to perfume, don't select this hotel. The hallway to the rooms is scented as if someone stuck a wunderbaum up your nose. The only reason I give a rating of two is because of the meal we had from the restaurant at the hotel. The meal was very good, but in no means outweighed the overall experience at staying at this hotel.
The hotel is situated right next to the main station and close to the famous suspension railway. It has good size, comfortable and well furished rooms. Very nice well equipped bathroom. A good breakfast was included in the price. Their are parking basement below the hotel.
we only stayed here one night en route to the Harz mountains. The facilities were very good but the meal we were given (no choise0 was very inferior.Tthis may have been because we were only passing trade mof of little interest
Stayed here during a conference and found it to be okay, but nothing special. As many people have noted, finding the entrance with the construction going on is quite a nightmare. Add to that the fact that the garage lets out in a different direction and the garage door seems to have a habit of malfunctioning, making getting to and from the hotel quite frustrating. But in theory the location is very good and convenient. Based on Intercity Hotels in other German cities I was hoping it would be snazzy and new, but this hotel is clearly a very old hotel that has been bought and rebranded as an Intercity. Everything was clean, functional and comfortable though, even if the furniture and decor was a bit tired and the place very dark. Breakfast was excellent when I went very early, but quite depleted when I went a little bit later. Service was helpful if not overly friendly.
Have stayed here on several occasions visiting at Christmas time - hotel is perfectly situated near the train station. Clean and tidy. As always great selection at breakfast . Looking forward to seeing all the outside work completed.
Heaps more charm than your typical chain hotel. Top tip if you are visiting soon and arriving by train. Follow the signs down platform 1 and do not head off out of the station towards the town. There is lots of construction work in the town and i is a frustrating walk. The rooms are very big and clean, as is the rest of the hotel. At breakfast there is a fantastic choice and everything has that little extra attention to detail.
The stay did not start well: the hotel is in the middle of a building site and the access has changed since our last visit, a two hour tour around Wuppertal in the car after a drive from the UK IS not pleasant. Also the first room had a runaway heated towel rail in the bathroom and the second one a leak in the ceiling. However these were sorted out. The breakfast was as good as ever and we had three excellent meals in the restaurant. With its great location (aside from the building site) and free local transport tickets, this remains our first choice hotel in Wuppertal,
Plastic sheets .... Ugh Air conditioning not working so room was unbearably hot Restaurant closed well before advertised . When asked why it's closed when we had especially asked if it would be open , they replied " because it's Saturday... Did the cook want to go to a party?? Small room , no space to open suitcase Four star ????? Are you kidding ?
