A wealth of independent shops, boutiques, cafés and superb international cuisine restaurants are all found within a short stroll along with the attraction of Lake Windermere itself. For the more energetic visitor, rowing boats are available on the lake, or you can enjoy a more leisurely steamer ride on the lake to see the stunning landscape. Why not wander up to Windermere town where there is a choice of shops and eateries, as well as a traditional cinema and The World of Beatrix Potter attraction? There are regular boat trips over to Ambleside and Lakeside, the latter of which is home to the Lakes Aquarium. From here you can also take a steam train along the Lakeside-Haverthwaite railway. The bus and railway stations give scope to travel further afield and explore the wider area. Walkers can enjoy access to a variety of walks from Bowness.
