Wichita stay

The building was a family center and it was surrounded by a chain-link fence. Grass was really overgrown, probably Knee height. It was a very rundown property - you parked behind a gate. Instructions to get the key to get inside were accurate however, once I got up to the room, the code did not work. So I had to go back downstairs, luckily someone was there, and they had to reset the passcode to get into the room. The room was small. It was not swept. There was a bug above the kitchen sink as well as one in bathtub, which needed cleaning. The Keurig had not been cleaned out. There was a nasty sponge in the sink. There were no dish towels to dry our coffee cups in the morning. Could’ve used some paper towels. The door leading into the bathroom was dirty, needed to be wiped down as well as the kitchen cabinets. Could use an additional two pillows because we had to take the shams off the pillows to sleep on them. The curtains barely covered the windows- could’ve used extra sets on those. The balcony was one long balcony so anyone could be walking by your room at any point outside. The people downstairs running the place were nice. Shared 1st 2 floors were long term rentals and 3rd & 4th floor were vrbo rentals.

Did not stay - host wouldn't cancel

Attempted to contact host via VRBO app for check-in information. Host did not respond in app. Has to call the phone number provided. Host told.me that somene already checked in under my name 5 hours prior to check in time. Was traveling with my spouse and no one else had our reservation details. Situation seemed sketchy. Once the host sorted the checkin situation he sent the check in onfo via vrbo app. Location is in the only unsafe area of Wichita. The complex is surrounded by a tapl metal fence. The gate has multiple.l9ckboxes on it, including a police lockbox. When we accessed rhe room the floor had multiple dead roaches. Bathroom was dirty. Hair in the tub. Neighborhood felt unsafe. Did not stay. Returned key card to lock box and contacted VRBO. VRBO told me that we needed to contact the host. Host didn't respond to VRBO app communication. Had to text host directly. Host offered another room in the same building. Did not want to stay in the building due to the conditions of the room we saw. Host told us to cancel the stay from our end and he would approve. Host would not cancel our stay. VRBO would not let us cancel the stay and said the host needed to initiate the cancellation. Because the host insstructed us to cancel I asked VRBO if the host would know that the guest is unable to initiate the cancellation. VRBO confirmed the host would know that. Didn't use the room at all and the host got paid.
