The cottage did not smell fresh and had a very noticeable stale, foisty smell. The living room was very small and felt cramped for 4 people. We were told by the owner the previous guests had broken the drain and the wash basin in the bedroom could not be used. However, I don’t understand why the cleaner could not empty the sink instead of leaving it full of water. We also noticed several cobwebs in the hall/landing areas. Also very well located the cottage is in real need of some tlc and a general clean and freshen.

The host responded to my inquiries promptly. The amenities of the property need to be improved. There was no coffee maker so I had to go out and purchase one that I left there. There were no extra blankets and it was cold so I purchased a fleece throw that I also left there. There were no ice cube trays and I could not find any in town. The lighting needs to be improved, there are two lamps total in the entire place. I had to bring a lamp from one of the bedrooms to the bedroom where I was sleeping. I was left one hand towel one very small bath towel, one washcloth and two dish towels for a 4 week stay. I purchased a towel and a washcloth and left them there.

Lovely Cottage
Stayed for 3 nights. The location is excellent, has everything in the cottage that I needed. We had fish and chips on the first night was great to see salt and vinegar already at the property. I was a bit worried about the parking situation but I needn’t have been, it was easy to unload the car then drive and park at the main car park. Our first time in Whitby-we will def return, thought it was fab.

Cockle cottage
Position of cottage is excellent
The access yard is off putting dirty bins cigarette ends
Cottage was not cleaned to extra covid requirements
The bed linen was very tired i.e not crisp cotton sheets
Wardrobe in twin room doors do not work a mixed selection of broken hangers do not look good
Off putting to locate the fridge in a cupboard with mops and brushes
Kitchen was not well equipped with exposed pipes under boiler
Just a bit of attention to detail would alter our opinion of Cockle cottage
The character and position in beautiful Whitby of Cockle cottage was spoiled by these points

Old Fishermans Cottage
The owners have done a really good job on updating this old cottage. It's on three floors with a very narrow steep staircase,so it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.Nice compact shower with toilet and washbasin on 1st.floor ,.The twin bedded room is on this floor.A very nice and bright room.2nd floor has just a double bedroom with TV and wash basin. The bed is very comfy. There are ,of course,Wardrobes ,bedside tables ecs. Fridge toaster, kettle,TV,central heating also an imitation log burning stove, electric,.Access is from one of the main shopping streets through a gate and up some 10? steps, there are other properties in the same yard. There are no views, from the property, but you only sleep there,so does it matter? We enjoyed our week there. We would recommend it,but we do not think it is suitable for people with walking problems.Oh! we are both in our 70's.

Lovely stay in a super little cottage
Arrived in Whitby for a few days with our granddaughter. Had a lovely time both in Whitby and in Cockle Cottage. Our granddaughter was very taken with the cottage and loved spending time there. The cottage was clean, tidy and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.
