From the old town, 199 steps lead up to the parish church of St. Mary, one of the finest Anglo Saxon churches in the country, and whose churchyard gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write Dracula. A superb base to explore Yorkshire’s east coast holiday resorts and the pretty, quaint villages in the North Yorkshire Moors better known as ’Heartbeat’ country.
