We visited this hotel for a girls night to relax and unwind. Natasha in reception greeted our party of 4 with a very pleasant friendly welcome. Dinner was planned for 19:30 ( early for us but we had an aged lady with us and she likes to eat early) Sadly, we met Ciaran ( Kieran ..not sure of his spelling). He informed us that we could eat at 17:00 or 21:00 as the dining room was fully booked. To say that he would benefit from participating in a customer service course would be an under statement. Our party decided to have lunch while considering whether to cancel our stay or what to do. This lovely hotel is 3 miles from the town, and drink driving means eating out wasn't on the cards. But then along came Steve (manager of this evening). Very professional, pleasant approach and he had resolved our ( and others) dining dilemma. Tables were now available. Thank you Steve. So we were staying. Our rooms were great. Adjoining as requested. Clean and fresh. So now it was time for pampering. One pedicure and manicure. Facial and massage. Rachael...look for another job. The pedicure was so bad that the guest returned to Rachael to complain. She was insisting this was how she was taught. Oh dear. To the hotels rescue...Rachael was a relief beautician. Once again...Steve managed the situation professionally. So on the positive side.. the majority staff in this hotel are superb. Steve, Natasha and Elaine. ..thank you. The hotel food is superb. The hotel is clean. The leisure centre Pool is full size ( must wear a swim hat) The beds are very comfortable. The negative was caused by 2 staff members. The bedrooms are rather hot. We kept our windows wide open all night. Would I return? Definitely. But it's because of Steve and Natashas professionalism and the beautiful food.
First of all we will point out that the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. There is ample free parking and good access from the motorway. The bar food is good. However the rooms are not well maintained. As a family of 6 we had two rooms and both were in poor condition. The shower in one of the rooms was cold even with the temperature set at maximum. We stayed here as a treat and paid more than we had at other hotels around the country. It is not good value. The hotel lobby includes tables which are an overspill for the bar. It doesn't give a good impression when arriving. We had an appalling nights sleep partly due to the high room temperature. There were noisy guests up and down the corridors most of the night which is somewhat out of the hotels control. We would not stay here again and would not recommend to others. There are better alternatives in the area.
This is a fine hotel in a great location if staying in Athlone for a break or just passing through and need a convenient stop-point. The hotel exterior and interior is attratcive - it was well decorated when it was initially built, that's very clear. However, the upkeep has been extremely poor. Great potential just not looked after well enough. Our room was fine on first appearance. Attractive interior design however, the bed made for an uncomfortable and poor nights sleep unfortunately as it was coupled with uncontrollable heat as there is no AC. The shower is actually the highlight of the room (strange as it may seem). It is a lovely rainforest shower. Refreshing! We shouldn't have included breakfast in our stay - it was extremely poor. Struggled to find something satisfying. Every item lacked taste, flavour & quality. The tea and coffee aren't fresh but rather left out in large flasks for self-service. Disappointing as we had very high expectations for our stay. One compliment that must be conveyed is the welcome and friendliness on arrival. Colleen was ever so helpful and welcoming. Really friendly girl and extremely helpful when we had any questions.
I stayed here for one night with my husband and young daughter. When we arrived we were quickly checked in by the reception staff who were lovely. The hotel room itself was extremely hot even though the windows had been open before we arrived. Unfortunately the room was not in great condition with badly stained carpets, dusty badly worn furniture and visible rubbish left under the writing desk. However most upsetting for me was the state of the travel cot they had provided for my daughter, it was ripped in several places and badly stained around the top. The television in the room was tiny and as the cot was positioned underneath it, with no other suitable location we could not even watch it when our daughter was asleep. But due to the heat and noise from other guests our daughter didn't sleep for long and we all felt horrible the following day. We visited the pool and we were told that we had to wear swimming caps, which we dutifully did, however when we entered the pool only a few had theirs on. They clearly don't enforce this policy. Staff members were in the pool testing the water and didn't ask others to put their caps on. Unfortunately I found the pool very cool. The changing rooms were quite worn and could do with a refurb. We ate in the Cedar bar in the evening and it was lovely, we enjoyed our meal there. Breakfast was OK, there didn't seem to be much selection of fresh fruit or yogurts but we still enjoyed the breakfast. Overall the location and internal appearance of the hotel was disappointing and we wouldn't recommend to families or couples. I think this would be a great hotel for stags and hens who just need somewhere to put their heads down for the night.
Stayed here with my partner as a short get away. It was nice but the bar is very very small so you would be lucky to get seats. The staff were friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent and that's why I'm giving it four stars. I can't fault it. I wouldn't recommend stating here for families or long term stays
room had chipboard panel instead of window that didn`t fit noisy air extractor outside requested other room window catch broken and beds looked like someone had slept in them! at dinner food was ok but presentation poor food splashes and fingerprints on dish breakfast was not good either my seat had hole in it and food poor, not clean and in need of repair was looking forward to visit but hotel seemed run down and in need of repair really disappointed
We stayed here last year and enjoyed it so much we stayed again this year. We received the same great service from all the staff and again the foods was really nice. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the waitress was extremely nice and offered juice for the kids. there was music playing on both nights which I thought was a great idea, there was no music last year. It just lifted the spirits of everyone and helped to finish off a great day.
Had visited the hotel 2 years previously hence my return as it was fabulous but I was very disappointed this visited The hotel on arrival looked grubby outside The reception was the same not that fresh hotel feel The rooms where very run down and the shower heat was extremely hot which I told them about for safety of other visitors especially young or old they could be burnt they didn't seem to bothered The service at dinner was ridiculous waiting over 30 minutes for main The breakfast was a disaster there was no clean plates we had to keep asking for cutlery and the food was buffet with very little to go round a large breakfast room I won't visit again which is sad goes to show if u take your eye of the ball things can slip because this was once a great hotel
Just home from a one night stay here. I have to say the hotel is excellent but the staff make it. From Colleen on reception to the lovely gentleman with the foreign accent that facilitated our afternoon tea (forgot to get his name) , they were so welcoming and friendly it really made our visit. We had a baby and our 12 year old and both had a blast. Pools lovely. Afternoon tea was delicious. Highly recommend
Efficient check in, room was spacious and clean. Bathroom modern with a great shower. Hotel is a 5 minutes drive from Athlone town centre. There was a good choice for breakfast and bar food was tasty. Lots of nice restaurants in the town for dinner.
