We booked through a travel agent for our honeymoon we were expecting something luxurious and nice, however we got here and well we had a single bed duvet inner on what king bed with a brown hospital blanket for warmth. Pillows are terrible, we wanted to travel with as little as possible however seems like bringing our own bedding would have been better. (something you expect from a self catering lodge). No coffee or milk just tea in the rooms as well as the door to the room is so terrible that we had to place a towl under it to keep from freezing to death also smelt like a public bathroom. Blinds are broken and don't work jusy to name a few. Only form of heat is a tiny fan heater plugged in the wall. Don't waist your time. The hotel rating should be 2 star not 4.
We arrived quite late on Thursday 13/7/17 evening. I booked in our three interns into Whalesong Hotel and Hydro and requested that breakfast be served at 6:45 as we need to be at our client at 7:45. the staff accommodated us immediately. We then went to book in at la Boheme and on making the same request we received an emphatic no. We tried to compromise by suggesting that La Boheme give us R50 Each to have breakfast at a Wimpy or Spur which resulted in us being subjected to verbal abuse and rude language. I went back to Whalesong who accommodated us immediately with four rooms which were made ready within an hour. the supper and service of the of the restaurant staff was great and the rooms were fantastic. Breakfast was ready as requested. Great all round value for money with courteous friendly and accommodating staff. As I said we had a whale of a time at Whalesong!
My husband and I recently stayed at the Whalesong Hotel for our honeymoon. Overall, we were happy with the facilities, however, a lack of wifi in the rooms, no computer/printer (for printing of online flight boarding passes) and a pretty overpriced restaurant took away slightly from our experience. The staff are friendly and quite willing to help where possible. A nice extra was the turndown service every evening!
I booked and paid for our stay in the Whale Song last August 2016. I got an unfriendly Email in the 18 April 2017 cancelling our booking for the 21 April 2017. Apparently there was a big bus coming (which then did not come), which would be good business for the hotel. Only after I protested, then the hotel said they would keep my booking. After this, they did nothing to make us feel welcome, so our stay was not nice. So we did not enjoy any bit of the two days we stayed at the Whale Song and I even thought of moving out to another hotel.
after confirming our itinerary more than once we were extremely dissapointed to be told 5 minutes after booking-in that none of the immenities (spa treatments and salon) would be available to us, which is the only reason we chose the hotel. Had management mentioned it to us before signing for the room, then making us fully liable for payment even though the error was on the side of the hotel. Bad Management, a dirty bathroom and the cheek to hold us liable for their mistake leaves a bad taste when thinking of the aformentioned hotel. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. WORST EXPERIENCE- on our anniversary to top it all off.
We stayed for 4 nights for business and leisure in this well positioned hotel - a little close to the N2 but surprisingly quiet. The first thing to know is the walking, not an issue for us but this hotel is not suitable for the unfit, old or infirm! The walk to the parking or restaurant is, according to the data from my iphone a minimum of 4 flights and it's steep! It does give a lovely view from the rooms though. The wi-fi, which is only available in reception barely worked at all when we were there so make sure you have data. Restaurant well appointed and again lovely views from the outside area but a number of items on the dinner menu were not available at all in the week, eg. ice cream. Not sure about the re-stocking policy though as things were not replenished when we were there, lime cordial the first 2 nights but not after that ....... Our main issue was the sewerage smell from our bathroom. All was fine for the first night but when we got back to the room on the 2nd evening the smell was horrendous. We spoke to reception and they 'cleared" it, it improved slightly but we had to keep the bathroom door closed and have all the windows open to sleep. Apparently the hotel is not on a septic tank, but it certainly smelled as though it was and that it needed to be emptied, stat. If it weren't for the smell we would have given this hotel a 4 star rating as it suited our needs, they accommodated a child on the sleeper couch happily and the rooms are as described with lovely balconies. I think it just needs a bit of maintenance, oh, and the balcony light didn't work either but we forgot to mention that to reception in our desperate attempts to make the room believable with the sewerage smell.
The Whalesong Hotel is just off the N2 on the approach to Plettenberg Bay. The hotel is attractive with large comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. However, it is a little tired and needs a make over if it is to keep up with other similar hotels that we have stayed in. As all of the hotels that we have stayed in the staff were very friendly.
I had a great time to rest and to enjoy myself. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly face and made the welcome warm and my stay a pleasing one. Looked forward to the stay there since booking and I was not disappointed.
Very spacious rooms, some with balcony and great view. Good restaurant and nice outdoor terrace. Short walk to the main street with shops and restaturants, and a bit longer walk to the beautiful beach.
We booked a week in this charming hotel over the internet and were a bit worried by some of the negative comments left here in Trip Advisor. After 2 nights waking up to birds chirping and a view over green hills, the lagoon and a scenic coastline we can say that our expectations have been exceeded and value for money is excellent. We booked two sea view rooms upstairs downstairs configuration and were surprised by the size and practicality. Both rooms have balconies and the views are fantastic to enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea and a good book. We havent been to the restaurant yet but it looks inviting. There are so many good restaurants we know in Plett so this didnt influence our decision to book the Whalesong Hotel. So if you are looking for a central place to explore the Garden Route at a good price especially if you have children you wont be dissapointed. Rooms and facilities are clean and the staff is friendly...best of all the Manageresse Manuela is German and makes sure your stay is comfortable
