The mix of room types from single story to 2 story makes it very attractive with a golf course surrounding it. They have a pool, restaurant & lovely reception area. The staff are friendly & helpful. Outside of the city proper but a serene location.
The Protea Hotel is part of the Marriott Hotels chain. My husband had booked a suite online using Marriott's own website some months ago. When we arrived we were given a standard room. Mistakes happen - we can understand that. However we had to really press hard at reception for the mistake to be rectified. At no point did the staff acknowledge that we had not been given what we paid for, nor did anyone apologise. Quite the opposite in fact: The staff member wanted to know what phone calls or other contact we had had with the hotel. It was clear that he was fishing for some way he could explain that the error was our fault. Other than using Marriott's own website to book we had had no contact with the hotel before arrival. After hearing this he told us that there was a problem with synchronization and the Marriott website didn't always send through the correct information about reservations. Who knows whether this was correct or not. Finally a 'suite' was located for us and we were sent away again with another set of keys. Guess what - another room. It was a bit nicer than the first one but still not a suite and nothing like the standard we had booked. We went back to reception again armed with photos and a description on the hotel's own website showing the suite we had actually booked. We also had a print out of our confirmation email describing the suite. The guy on the desk would simply not acknowledge that the hotel had not given us what we paid for. He claimed that all the rooms and suites were the same price which according to the hotel's own website is absolutely rubbish. The fact that we had paid a substantial premium for a suite at the time we booked just didn't seem to matter to him. In the end we had no choice but to accept the second room. We asked for compensation and finally very, very reluctantly we were given a complimentary dinner and two breakfasts. We still didn't get an apology and it was clear that there was no question of a partial refund on the additional cost of the suite we had actually booked. The dinner was an extremely ordinary buffet. Needless to say we are not happy and will think twice before staying at a Marriott Hotels chain again.
I found the hotel easy accessible from main roads. The hotel rooms were private surrounded by beautiful gardens. The staff were all helpful and friendly. There was nothing to make this hotel stand out. Its basically a beautiful average hotel. I must say disappointing for a Marriot Hotel.
What makes this hotel exceptionally outstanding is it's staff members. I found them very friendly, always willing to assist and going the extra mile to ensure guests are comfortable. Since this was a group booking I constantly communicated with Sindiswa Deshwa at Reservations to finalize my booking and she was very professional and responsive at all times. On arrival we were checked in by the competent Byron at front desk and often interacted with other amazing staff including Erika (manager), Siyabonga, Andiswa and Thando for any thing we required during our stay. The restaurant staff served us with a high standard of customer service and I just want to appreciate Anwin, Sindisa and the chef from Plettenberg(forgot her name) who were all amazing. Dinners and breakfast had enough variety and I specifically enjoyed their hake, lamb stews and desserts. Rooms are generously spacious, well maintained and cleaned. My family and I are already planning another stay at this hotel same time next year.
Was a comfortable awesome stay as my children had the safety and freedom to roam around on the premises as they needed to. We were about 30 in our family group and was easy for us to move in and around as the hotel was central for us... Lots of eatery places around if you wanted to eat somewhere else. Hubby and I had many relaxing moments by the pool and room service was good.
We stayed here for 1 night on our way back from outshoorn and we had flight back to joberg from george airport Its a nice small hotel earlier may be was a guest house It has small breakfast buffet Decent wi fi and located in city
A stunning hotel away from the city noise with stunning views, ample parking next to your room, rooms are large with all the amenities expected from a business stay. The breakfast buffet caters for every taste.
This hotel is nothing fancy just a decent place to sleep when passing through on business or on a golf club. It is close to the airport and situated on a golf course. We stayed in connected outside rooms which were average and clean and with only one tiny bathroom for both rooms.. We ate a very average supper in the reataurant - which has absolutely no atmosphere (or music for that matter). The staff were at least friendly. There are much better (and cheaper) places to stay in and around George.
3 weeks in South Africa (including layovers in London) and this might be the best part of the trip. Gorgeous place; perfect for slowing down; SERVICE IS DIVINE. Shout out to the front desk staff, who were incredible. Restaurant staff were on top of it! And personal shout outs to Christo, Adanaan, and Anwin, who became like friends/brothers during our stay. Downside: having to get wifi vouchers every 500mb. Dear Owners/Managers: PLEASE FIX THIS.
Comfortable business like hotel which also works fine for family stays Well located and very quiet Diner quality very average Good rooms Good breakfast Good service although check in procedure was a little laborious Nothing really special but good value for money
