Ok so we booked as its a chain hotel and I collect points. Also we had stayed at a Mercure Sheffield a brand new hotel in the same brand and enjoyed our stay. So the Parkway as my mum remembers was the fine hotel where the aircrew from the airport used to stay when flying was special. The saving grace of the hotel is the staff, who were friendly approachable and helpful. The bar area has been kept nice. Neutral tones and relatively quick service. The room we stayed in was in the 1970's extension. This part of the hotel requires improvement. The room was dated, the sofa very dated, the carpets had it, but it was very clean, well done housekeeping. We appreciated being given a room with garden access as we had our Spaniel with us. The shower worked well but overall the bathrooms need an overall makeover as do the rooms. The bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast was a little underwhelming, pastries were small and a little dry, big croissants would have been appreciated, as would less cost per person. I wanted to be happy with our stay but I expected more form the brand and this just isn't up to brand scratch when the group uses the same branding for brand new locations.
I booked this hotel for a night away as I really wanted anight of luxury and spa facilities as visiting friends in Leeds. Check in was okay but then when we got our room that was not what I was expecting. the bed was a 3/4 bed for a double room far to small I didn't want to complain I knew it was only for the one night so we went to the bar got two lattes to be told the charge is just under £8!! And that didn't even come with a side biscuit haha! After that we went to the "spa" that looked absolutely stunning on the pictures (hence why booked) to be confronted by what I can only describe as a council swimming pool. It's a good job I didn't fancy a swim as there was children's swimming lessons taking place across both lanes. There was a sign stating that the spa pool was just that, and not a jacuzzi, and that it maintains the same temperature as the swimming pool. I found this to be untrue, and I can safely say it was the first time I have ever left an indoor spa facility to go outside to get warm! This may sound dramatic but book it and see for yourselves!... The spa decor/tiles where dated and worn to say the very least, stained and slimy, I am genuinely surprised I have not caught a veruca or fungal infection, the photos on the website really are a misinterpretation of reality. This one night stay cosy £65.. which granted does not seem unreasonable for the star rating and hotel brand, but I can whole heartedly say that the facilities are no greater in standard than that of a travel lodge and costs nearly double the price!! Save your money!
A Saturday night stay with my partner en route to RHS Harlow Carr. Reception staff friendly. Double room set up for one, but bagged towels tho not toiletries for two available. Carpet not well vacuumed. Paintwork a little tired. Hotel has a pool, sauna, spa pool and steam room, a bonus. No staff on reception there and all tired looking and in need of a good clean. Dinner very disappointing. After drinks in lounge with helpful barman, went for our 8.15 table. Waitress asked if we wanted to order from three courses for £22 which was within our meal allowance. Told her we were room only. She said she would check and came back 15 mins later. Took our order for two mains and two glasses of wine. Water arrived as requested. Main meals were at least 30 mins as was 9.15 when they arrived. Had to ask for wine again, which was brought, swiftly and pleasantly by a waiter. The chicken on the Caesar salad was cold and some pink and undercooked, not seared. Returned it and waited 15 mins for another, smothered with dressing when I had previously requested dressing on the side. We were not charged for the salad at the end of the meal, which I appreciated, but did have to go to the room for a card to pay as the pre authorisation hadn’t worked! Not the best of stays. Stayed in the Mercure in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago which was much better organised.
Mercure hotel...Not bad for a business stay. Good easy check in. Room comfortable. Restaurant lacked space even for table foe one, however they will serve food in the bar area. I found the menu choice very poor, but then I do not like fussy food. The Ale Haddock was tasty, lack in choice of desserts. Overall reasonable stay
Changed room early in the evening due to someone playing a violin in their room!. Is it me or is that totally selfish and ignorant? Next room was loud as people upstairs scraping on tiled floor and noisy TVs and talking could be heard which points at poor sound proofing. Will not be staying here again.. time is now 12:06 and can still hear TVs blaring on...
Very disappointed. We went to a concert on Friday night. Got back at 11pm. Thought we would have a drink.in the bar. No staff at the bar or at reception. Stood round for 5 mins then went looking for staff. No one about. Then someone appeared at reception. We asked if we could get an alcoholic drink yes you can but we can't take cash you will have to put it on your room number. No I didn't want to do that but he said sorry we get into trouble if we take cash x very strange. The next morning we decided to leave 1 day early. Went to reception said we are leaving early. The girl on reception said ok no worries but my computer has crashed. She asked me the room number etc but not WHY we were leaving. I gave her the card's and left x customer service is terrible will definitely never stay again.
Had a 4 week stay in this hotel. Staff all friendly and accommodating when needed. Got to know a few places in the area and one great place is the Lawnswood Arms (hungry horse) just down the road. Great value food and beer. Ate here most nights. Used the hotel gym a few times as well, overall would be happy to stay again.
This was my second visit and each time I have enjoyed the stay. The one thing which I disliked was that each time there has been a queue of around half a dozen at check in with only one receptionist working .If another staff member was available during busy periods it would help to alleviate such problems. A special word for Curtis at the Leisure Club who intervened when a couple of young guys thought it would be fun to take selfies in the middle of the pool then film each other running and diving whilst others were trying to swim lengths.Peace was soon restored.
The Mercure Leeds hotel never lets my wife and I down. The quality of service and the staff are second to none and this has been consistent over the decades that we have had the pleasure of using the hotel. The facilities are very good, the beds very comfortable, the food good and the welcome always friendly and helpful.
This was a business trip. The hotel was dirty with extremely dated and shabby fixtures and fittings.. I ordered a sandwich from room service: Cheese and pickle and a portion of chips.I did not think this would be too difficult. How wrong I was... it arrived, eventually.. !! . The bread was stale and dry, presentation was non existent and no cutlery. I phoned to speak reception and there was an argument.... THE BREAD IS STALE - nothing more needs to be said really !!!!! They exchanged it for another sandwich - made again from stale bread, eventually the restaurant manager came to see me and apologise. I went to bed hungry that night.... The entire stay was just disappointing and I will never ever return..
