I booked for myself and my daughter and her partner to stay here for two nights while on the battlefield sites. After the first night my daughter asked me if I had read the reviews and I said I had back in the Summer when booking, a good job I hadn't read them since! We were greeted at reception and given our keys and a key to the car park, just the other side of the Menin Gate and a cost of 10 euro a day but secure and locked up. The rooms were dark but I understand they are being updated, the battlefield colours were not what you want when doing the tours, something calming would be better to come back too. The bathroom was fine the water was hot but the pressure was poor for a bath but fine for a shower. The bed was comfortable and none of us had any problems with bugs. My coffee machine either didn't work or I couldn't work it, my daughters was fine and I used the kettle provided. The towels were fine I didn't put the TV on but my daughter did and she had a good reception. Bedside tables and headboards would have improved things a lot as would a hair dryer. Breakfast was fine two of us are vegetarian and found it to be a good continental breakfast, fresh fruit yoghurts and good breads. It's in the best position just off the main square that does of course mean that it can be noisy. We found it to be excellent value for money.

Beds are incredibly small, shower has no pressure at all, hot water is not always available, sopa is not replaced, bathroom is dirty, noisy like hell.... even the breakfast is so poor, receptionists are not always available. I would never come back, under any circumstance. The only happy moment was the check out one.

The room had a nasty smell; thankfully my mate uses Lynx deodorant so that soon got rid of it. Although I'm not bothered about television, it had no signal. If you offer it, make sure it works. The shower had no curtain so water went everywhere..........their problem when cleaning. the room ( number make sure you don't get that one), was small and dark and very hot. The window overlooked an open roof which was covered in rubbish, and the blind was hanging off. Breakfast was plentiful but obviously the cheapest. Thankfully we only stayed one night.

Having known this Hotel for over four years was surprised to read some very negative issues concerning cleanliness and service. I know this hotel has changed ownership now and the new owners are completely renovating the rooms etc. Going is the drab Military style and fresh paint work is brightening up the whole place. Any concerns on cleanliness can be forgotten, the room was cleaned and serviced every day on our three day stay. The "canteen style" breakfast room area has been renovated to bright and clean area offering a fantastic continental style breakfast. Still topped up until the close at 10.00am so no problem in having all the offerings. The staff are very polite and helpfull. The room was clean with a wet room shower all very clean.{room 123] all the items were in place, fridge, kettle, hair dryer, coffee maker and making facilities. Parking was not provided but I was able to park outside the hotel for two of the three days we stayed. The other day was just around the corner. Considering there was a mini marathon going on when were there with hundreds of people and some roads closed off this did not cause a problem at all. We took two friend with us and the they were pleased with their room as well, however, this was still in transition from the old green drab so seemed a bit dark, but still clean and all as expected. Will continue to stay at this Hotel when we make our annual homage to my wifes' Grandfathers' grave at Popperinge near Ypres. Ideal location for the bars,eating places and of course the Menin Gate. The Flanders Museum is opposite a must see place. Couldn't fault.

I'll start with the positives, the location is terrific right in the town centre. The breakfast I found to be good with plenty of options. Unfortunately the rest is all negative. The view from my window was laughable. The TV did not work. The bed was plonked in the middle of the room, no headboard. The mattress and pillow were not comfortable. And upon waking up the next day I find blood streaks of bed bugs I have crushed in the night on the sheets. Further inspection shows a substantial amount of bed bugs, some of which were hard to find amid the filthy floors. Ypres is such a lovely town, don't tarnish your stay here. Even if you are on a budget, just pay a bit more for somewhere more befitting of a hotel.

Having seen the previous reviews about bedbugs I contacted the hotel repeatedly in the weeks before my stay to find out how they were solving the problem. I was assured that they had had the hotel fumigated several times by a professional exterminator, and that they had refurbished many of the rooms in which bedbugs had been a problem. The hotel assured me that bedbugs would no longer be an issue, in fact they used the words 'we guarantee the problem has been solved' prior to my arrival. As I was unable to find another hotel on short notice, and with the assurances of the hotel management that the problem had been solved, I decided not to cancel my stay there. Unfortunately the room I stayed in was dirty- I found long hairs all over the floor, the fridge and coffee machine weren't working, some light bulbs were broken, and my room smelled so bad I had the window open for 2 days straight. Members of my party which had stayed in another room woke up covered in dozens of bedbug bites. All in all a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I travel to Ieper often, but I will not stay at this hotel ever again.

I have to agree with previous reports, the receptionist on arrival was very friendly and helpful. However, very disappointing very then on. We had to walk through the dining area to get to our room, which was not very clean at all with food left on the floor and it was more like a works canteen! Our room was dark and dingy and the bed linen and towels were grey and shabby looking. We had just had a very long journey and my husband and I wanted to relax for an hour before going to the ceremony. This was not to be, the television did not work, the coffee machine did not work and the room was very cold. I happened to look on tripadvisor to see if I was over reacting, and read about the bed bugs, which was the final straw. We had only checked in for one hour but it was enough, we were on our way! On our way back to reception we noticed a few old mattresses which had been stacked outside on the grass. When I explained to the receptionist why we were leaving, she did not attempt to stop us at all and shrugged her shoulders as if to say 'another one'. We did make the ceremony, which was very moving, and we made our table reservation for dinner and then drove a few miles outside town to the most beautiful hotel for the same price! I know this is a budget hotel, and the location is perfect, but it needs so much work to bring it up to even a budget hotel standard. Fortunately this did not spoil our trip, which was amazing.

Spent one night at this hotel and thankful it was only one night. One of our party was bitten about 150 times by bed bugs. His room must have been infested by them. We now have the worry that we have brought them home with us. Why on earth is this establishment still allowing people to stay at this hotel when they know they have this problem. Do yourself a favour and find another hotel. If I had read the previous reviews about people being bitten I would certainly not have stayed here. Save yourself the anguish we have suffered and stay somewhere else.

This hotel has bed bugs. We were bitten to bits and the most awful bites that are still giving us problems. We are terrified that we have imported them into our house on our luggage and shoes. This has been the most stressful experience ever, our beautiful home possibly infected with eggs and bugs. It is obvious now that the hotel knew they had a problem and still put us n those rooms. They have not even replied to an email I sent them about this. Stay somewhere else

I visited this hotel after reading many reviews on here and wondering what I had booked. On the 11th hour, I considered cancelling and just checking into the Novotel whatever the cost; as what I had booked seemed awful. My experience was so different from what the previous reviews state. Upon arrival the lovely lady on reception made us all feel more than welcome and did her best to accommodate our group (5 rooms) all close together. After leaving the reception and arriving on the first floor, I must admit I was overwhelmed with the sense of dark and dinginess that the décor offered. It appears that this hotel under its previous tenure was 'Military Themed' and as a result the walls are painted a dull and uninspiring military green. Upon entrance to my room (112) whilst still painted dark green, with an awful wall paper trying to depict the trenches, I was surprised by the spaciousness and level of comfort. First impressions where grim, and I must admit a lick of paint with a brighter more ambient feel would do the place a world of good. The bedroom and bathroom were all of a good size and the bed was the comfiest I have ever stayed in. We had a safe, coffee 'pod' type machine, fridge, TV and decently stocked hospitality tray, more than I have ever been given as standard in much better graded accommodation. The décor despite not being my personal choice proved good, as with the black out blinds it was dark even after daybreak and I cannot fault the two nights sleep I had here. I feel asleep straight away and had two comfortable nights. The hotel did not cost us anything (relatively speaking), yes it would not have been my choice, but for a budget stay what more could I want. Comfy bed, hot and cold running water and decent breakfast in a light and airy dining room. The staff were lovely, the room great and location almost unrivalled. We stayed central Ypres (50 yards from the Cloth Hall) and paid a rate which didn't even come close the facilities and the location we were provided with. Yes this hotel is rough around the edges, I have every confidence that is very much work in progress however the room rate more than reflects this. Its comfy, clean, gave us a good breakfast and was the ideal base. Please do not look at the reviews and think what I did. This place is a gem. We will be visiting again and Hotel O will be the place we book. My only negative, and this is beyond the hotels control is the level of noise early in the morning. On the Monday at 0515hrs I experienced two dustcarts back-to-back which woke me upset my sleep. The second morning Tuesday I experience another dust cart which again arrived with an horrendous noise. Room 112 is the first floor 'front of house' and as such you can only expect the noise as the town wakes up around you. My 5 blob review is honest and true. Its not the flawless experience you may expect, but it is not pretending to be five star and we did not pay five star prices. Good honest accommodation with lovely caring hosts and good breakfast.
