My family and I just returned to the US after a nine day vacation in the BVI. We stayed in a three bedroom villa at Fort Recovery and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms were neat, clean, and comfortable. Each evening, when we returned, we noticed that the rooms had been cleaned and made immaculate by the cleaning crew. The view from our villa was made beautiful by the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea behind. There is a beach behind the villa with beach chairs and a section of the beach where we enjoyed swimming and snorkeling. What impressed us the most was how caring, polite and courteous everyone at Fort Recovery were. We met with Anita, the owner, on a few occasions and she was helpful beyond measure and kind. Rita, the Office Manager, provided us with a wealth of information on places to visit and how to get to those places. The other hotel staff that we met, Charmaine, Suzanne, CC, Vizi, Neville and Satish were all very friendly and we had delightful conversations with all of them during our stay. There is a hotel and spa at Fort Recovery. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and the food was good. We did not visit the spa. As an earlier post stated we did not have TV reception in our suite, but that was not an issue for us. Wi Fi was fine, but slow. But then, slow Internet and poor cell phone performance is a pervasive problem in all of BVI. All in all our stay at Fort Recovery was a very memorable and pleasant experience.

My wife and I live on another island and we took a week to go to Tortola for carnival. After reading the reviews we chose Ft Recovery. Knowing it was an older hotel we did not expect a 4-5 star resort. We checked in late. The staff waited up to let us in. The room had remodeled but still showed it’s age. The furniture was dated but clean. The room sat on the bay facing St Johns and had beautiful views. The description said “cable TV and WiFi in all suites.” Not So! No TV and WiFi did not reach our room.the staff was nice and the Breakfast was good. All in all, if you are looking to relax, this might be the right place. For us, we checked out early and moved to Scrub Island.

Maybe it was the location or the view or that we were starting a long vacation or the food or the staff or the peace and quiet or the simplicity, or the casual comfort. Whatever it was, this place was perfect.

Fort Recovery is a quaint Caribbean hotel with amazing views of the Sir Francis Drake Channel. The rooms are comfortable, but what really makes this hotel worth the stay is the staff. They make you feel so welcome! The food is wonderful and tasty. After 10 days on a catamaran this was the perfect re-entry into "reality". Definitely recommend and we will be back. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

I was very grateful for my trip to Tortola. My family chose the beautiful beachfront resort Fort Recovery. The accommodations were the best on the island. The staff was especially friendly. I liked very much the decor of our villa. It was right on the beach. The food was pretty good on the island, however the hotel had a little restaurant and I greatly enjoyed some delicious breakfasts and dinners with our family. We will return.

We stayed for a night before we got onto our boat for a week. We were so impressed with the quality of our dinner! It was so nice and good to sit outside. Our room had 3 bedrooms and patio with a view of the water. There is a nice area to sit around the pool and the beach. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was very good as well.

What a wonderful experience. My husband and I chose to stay at Fort Recovery, as we wanted to relax on a beach. Fishing is a favorite pastime, so we were able to fish many times. I loved the villas, they were immaculately cleaned; a pet peeve of mine and the kitchen made our eating plans much easier. The people working there were very helpful. I was able to get a local fish recipe from the owner Anita; who was a doll. She spent her time with us, and took an interest in who we are as people. She gave some wonderful suggestions of beaches and bars to see. We especially liked Smugglers Cove. She said they filmed, "Old Man In The Sea" there. We've stayed in a variety of places in the Caribbean and specifically came to Tortola to get away from the typical commercial hotel. Slot machines, splashing fountains and waterslides are not our thing. We originally booked the hotel for a couple of nights, as we weren't sure if we might go to another island, however the proximity of Tortola to Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke, two of the islands we wanted to go to, were very easy to get to by ferries. We staying the entire week were extremely happy. I did check out some other hotels like Sebastians and Sugar Mill and realized we had picked the best place to stay on the island. My favorite part about Fort Recovery were the accommodations. They were nicely decorated, clean and on the beach. Thanks Anita for being such a great hostess. I will recommend your place to my friends and family.

The photos of the hotel are absolutely not what you see online. The room was a complete crap hole and they told us it was an “upgrade!” The beach was filled with glass and rocks. The bedroom had holes in it and was absolutely disgusting. The big window next to the bed consisted of a screen with wooden panels. The air conditioner was from the 70’s. Their bar/restaurant consisted of a refrigerator with beer and apple juice. The food was terrible. We were supposed to stay there for our entire vacation for my 40th Birthday but we only stayed for one night because it was so gross! The owner charged us for 4 nights at $1400 when we only stayed for 1! The place had no TV the picture showed one but there was just a random wire coming out of the wall where a TV used to be. The pictures will show you what a nightmare this place truly is! Don’t stay here and stay at Sebastian’s that was what you expect when you go to Tortola!!

Rejuvination time again! Another wonderful trip to Fort Recovery. Tortola. Where the sea sparkles with a turquoise to deep blue color, is crystal clear and warm, with white sand beaches, lush green mountains, sheltered yaught filled harbors, and stunning sunsets, hard to resist. I am home. I can be myself and let go. I comb the shores for gifts from the sea. And let my creativity begin, with the tropical breezes blowing and palms swaying. I love being outside and work up a great appetite. If I am not cooking, the chef Cece, is there to make a nice fresh, most pallitable meal. There are lots of restaurants around the Island, to get to by rental auto, or taxi. I walk to the local grocery store and bakery, which also cooks fresh fish with sides, and other food items for lunch or dinner. I see so much walking. I love Tortola, and I love Fort Recovery, where I frequent a lot. Thank you Anita, Anne, Rita, Cece, Susan, Yvette, Wexie, Nevers, McCauley,, Mr.Nibs, Daisy, and everyone. Cannot wait to get back.

This place and its ratings and photos don’t reflect just how dated and old and in need of repairs this place is. Oh by the way this nothing to do with the past hurricanes deferred maintenance and up keep.
