IntercityHotel Göttingen

This hotel is located close to the main rail station of Goettingen what can be a very convenient for train travelers. However, we traveled with a car and we met certain problems due to a very limited number of parking places at the hotel – we had to use the garage at the rail station on the other side of the street. The staff at the reception desk was very nice and helpful, we got a city map and some directions for easily getting to a city centre. The room was relatively comfortable. Breakfast was not very impressive and coffee was very bad. IntercityHotel Goettingen was quite OK but definitely did not deserve 4 stars.

Convenient location, limited free parking, 10-15min walk to historic city center. Pleasant rooms, quieter on the courtyard side, especially when you open the window. Compared to a stay 2 years ago I noticed a degradation in service, possibly due to a shortage of cleaning- and restaurant staff (?). Our room was not cleaned for 2 days in a row, as we stayed in until around noon. Front Desk staff very friendly and efficient. In-room wifi slow.

A word of disclaimer: I was not able to stay in this Hotel because of the lack of seriousness of its staff. Here follows the story. I had booked through about a month ago; few days before (when I was in Berlin without the easyness of a PC) my supposed arrive I received an email telling me that the Hotel was closed for renovation. After that I discovered that they have been closed for weeks but they kept on receiving prenotations. Intercity suggested me to be hosted is Astoria Hotel, their partner, the first two night and to move to Intercity the last night and I, not knowing at the time all the situation and the lack of customer care of the staff, accepted. After two days I moved to Intercity Hotel only to discover that it was still closed. There was a sign written on a piece oh paper hanged to the entrance door pointing the arriving guest to another Hotel nearby. I moved there, but I was not expected in that hotel: the Intercity simply left me without a hotel, even if I had booked. The staff of this Hotel (Leiden Hotel) was verty nice so I stay the last night there; moreover they were able to reach someone from Intercity and they passed me on the phone. This member of staff wans't even able to apologize for the carelessness shoved in this mishap, the only sentence they said to me (more than once) was "you must find another Hotel", as if I was responsible for their incompetence.

It was a plain and simple hotel, nothing fancy. Breakfast was OK. Rooms were OK. But not up to the mark of what they were charging. Also, the staff at the breakfast buffet was a little rude. If they were charging 20% less than what they are now, i would give them 4 and a half stars.

I've stayed four nights there, as I was attending the Hannover Fair. Room clean, staff friendly, breakfast buffet simple but good quality, good location (for my need, as it is just a few walks away from railways station), quiet, reasonable priced.

-Boring breakfast -First room I stayed in the shower drain was clogged (I told reception, they said they would fix but never did). -Second room I stayed in I could smell smoke frequently. -Room amenities I'd expect in a 50 euro a night hotel, not 115. Eye wateringly overpriced. Only positives were the staff were nice and the location was good.

Was pleasantly surprised to find that I was upgraded to a suite. The room was huge, especially compared to a previous stay at the Hotel Stadt Hannover in Goettingen. The hotel is a bit of a walk to the city center but very convenient to the train station. The hotel decor especially in the breakfast room felt like a step back to the 1970s. Nevertheless, the hotel is very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good.

I stayed at this hotel for a 4-day business trip to Göttingen. I had a general good impression of the hotel. To be more specific: + FREE WIFI! I read this in many reviews that wifi costs at this hotel. Bust as of June 2016 this was clearly not the case anymore, and one is online within two clicks. Internet is also fast and reliable. + I liked the light-coloured and bright design of the rooms and the hotel. Oftentimes hotel hallways are dark and depressing, and almost scary. This hotel was the exact opposite and this somehow really made a difference. + Nice location next to the train station, also safe and proper area. As a single woman traveler I had no worries walking back at night. + Rooms are clean, and nicely prepared. + I liked the bathroom a lot. Clean and lots of room to put things. Also none of these weird modern showers with no door, but a proper "closed-door" shower. This was very good. + Staff is friendly and helpful - The reception: Although people were friendly, there was almost always a line of 1 or two people, and this sometimes took a while. If you just come back and want to grab your key this is annoying. Having a backup receptionist would help. - Breakfast was ok but nothing special. I missed a proper coffee. They only had thermos cans of filter coffee on the tables and coffee cream. For a 100 a-night hotel I would have liked at least some fresh milk for my coffe and a csppucino machine! Also the scrambled eggs (my favoiurite part of hotel breakfast) had a weird consistency and were almost tasteless. Not awful, just tasteless. To sum up: Great hotel, enjoyed my stay, with a few lacks and a bit pricey for what it is.

It is a good hotel in terms of rooms, cleanliness and location. A bit out of fashion in terms of decoration. Is close to the train station and at 10 minutes walk from the historical city center. A big problem: there is no free internet in the rooms.... and that you must consider very negative if you are in business trip.

The Intercity Hotel is located on the back side of the train station, within a short walking distance but in a dull area as compared to the nice historic city center on the opposite side of the station. Rooms are pretty much the standard of this chain, and there is the usual Intercity hotel bonus that public transport tickets are provided free of charge. Unfortunately, the quality of the buffet breakfast is below the standards of other hotels of the chain. Food is edible, but certainly not a reason to stay here. Choice is a bit more limited, but what really matters is that it is less fresh (not old and disgusting, but not really appealing) and many products are apparently low-end discounter brands. So breakfast is just okay.
