Penn Wells is a neat old historic hotel in downtown Wellsboro. My boyfriend and I visited for a weekend in late August and wanted to stay somewhere convenient and walkable to Wellsboro’s attractions. We considered this property and an available B and B. Ultimately this hotel won out because I had seen it passing by months before and was curious as to the interiors. The front desk staff here in particular is incredibly friendly and helpful. Don’t miss the interesting display case of local historical items behind the check in desk also. I have collected Shiny Brights for many years and never knew of their connection here before this visit. Public spaces are comfortable and easily accessible. The room itself was more than adequate and I loved the original bathroom, which was in great shape given the age of the hotel. Like most older properties, there are areas that could benefit from some upgrades, but I also own a 100 year old home and know how old places are a never ending project, but more importantly a labor of love, which is why we choose to live in/support them. I would like to give a shout out to the Mary Wells dining room chef. We had an incredible meal and I recommend eating dinner here. Advise a reservation per the hotel staff. Don’t miss the old black and white photo gallery! There was also a cute pub like dining area that we did not visit, but looked very charming and I would consider for a future visit.

We liked the charm and feel of the place. It was absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed it immensely. It felt like we were back in time, when things weren't so fast paced, which felt really good. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It really set the mood as we were going to our grandsons Christmas at the High School. What a way to start off the holiday season. Really put you in the holiday spirit.

Old hotel, but unique and nice

Vintage Super friendly staff Very comfortable sleep

Very friendly and professional front desk at check in.

Pleasing accommodations. Lots of history, yet up-to-date.

Love older hotels, quiet, good restaurants, parking, nice rooms.

Friendly staff, nice property with lots of history. Clean and neatly done... older, certainly... they could update their air conditioners, otherwise a very well appointed hotel.

VERY QUAINT, BRUNCH WAS FIRST CLASS, YOU ARE RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF TOWN AND CLOSE TO ALL ACTIVITIES.

It’s a historic hotel, it’s right on Main Street and you can simply walk to the movie theater, shops and nice restaurants and bars. It’s old but well kept. The pool is not at this facility but you do have access to a pool located at their partner hotel a couple of blocks from this property.

It is an old hotel, but charming. The restaurant was closed on Monday and Tuesday, but there are near-by restaurants.

Friendly people! Fun Bar! Great Food & Hospitality!

Loved the idea of staying at a historical hotel. Was disappointed that there was nothing special added to make this hotel more comfortable and cozy. The pictures of the lobby looked bright and comfortable. In real life it was dark and dreary. The rooms could have some extra touches to make them more comfortable. There is nothing special. The hotel is just old! Very disappointed that we had to walk several blocks to their other hotel for breakfast. The breakfast was just another boring hotel breakfast. The “fake” eggs were just awful! You have to stay Saturday night to get the delicious breakfast others gave good reviews of. The only thing we did like about the hotel was that we could walk next door to the theater. That’s was nice.

We had a wonderful stay here! If you love to stay in a place oozing of history, this is your place! The free breakfast was amazing & the hotel staff were very friendly!

Enjoyed our stay there. Liked the history of the hotel and the location is great, within walking distance of the shops and eateries .
