i just walked in out of the rain, i checked in. The room i stayed in a 20 bed dorm, surprisingly super quiet and clean. There is a lounge and bar on site. the wifi is a bit spotty but works. I have not ate the food at the restaurant so cannot comment. I would stay here again.
The true measure of the value of any business is the manager's performance. I would like to highlight a very special feature of this hotel is the active response and friendly attitude of the manager Mr, Cyrus . He along with all other staffs are doing a fabulous job in not all satisfying the customers but customers are delighted. It will not be out of scope to say that this hotel is now the 1st choice of most of the backpackers and people can almost have all the facilities under one roof. The differentiating factor of superior performance is the positive attitude of the human capital leading to all things into perfections
Older looking place inside and out but room options, amenities and location are great if you are travelling on a budget. Staff are friendly and ready to answer all your questions. They have a bar and cafe onsite which is real handy. Pretty clean throughout. Would definitely stay again as I enjoyed my time here. It is what it is.
I was in this hotel for nearly one month when I arrived for the first time in NZ. It is the best hotel if you are looking for nice service, nice staff and nice rate. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would like to thank Cyrus De Gratia the hotel manager who has provided this cool accommodation. I strongly recommend this hotel. Don’t waste your time and money somewhere else. Go for it 🙋♂️
Bedroom was a bit run down with the windowsill being rotted and windows hard to shut, but the bathroom was quite clean - there is a fan in the bathroom though which you cannot turn off and it makes quite a noise. Cleanliness in the kitchen was questionable though. Staff were very informative and helpful, recommended places to see and eat at, and when I went to complain about my room mates drinking in the room, they straight away got onto it. Prime location for the railway station, ferries and Westpac Stadium but not as central as other backpackers (only a 20 minute walk though)
I found this hostel only a little run down, quite clean, surprisingly quiet, the staff were helpful and good value for money. Its also very convenient as there is food and drink available onsite and it's right next to the station. All in all a very decent hostel :)
My wife and I stayed at Hotel Waterloo & Backpackers for about 10 days in March 2018. We were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff and were impressed by their degree of helpfulness. Specifically talking, Cyrus (the front office manager) was really kind and even took the time to explain an issue that we had with bus routes and stuff. The hotel is very near to Lambton Quay, the main fashion street in Wellington. Our room was also quite clean. We didn't have any major problems throughout our 10-day stay. I have to thank everyone at hotel Waterloo for their hospitality.
The decor is very dated throughout. Stayed in a single room that had a comfortable bed and clean shared bathroom. There is communal kitchen and restaurant available. WiFi is only free for 1 hour and then $3 per hour after that. Have to pay for luggage storage $4-8. Staff were polite, but missing the friendly feel of smaller hostels I have stayed in in NZ. Good location - close to ferry terminal and railway station, short walk from shops/cafes/sights.
The bunk bed twin room that we got was old and disgusting. The screws of the bedframe were loose and top bunk felt like it was going to fall off. We had to try to ‘hand screw’ them. The toilet flush gets stucked sometimes. The door knob to the toilet was so loose i was afraid of not getting back into the room if it falls off. Nothing to rave about the front desk service. The only saving grace was the location.
Booked a twin room, and got a room that looks nothing like the picture in the booking. Was given a twin bunk bed. Room was so old and dilapidated, I thought I was living in a slum. I believe the hostel and the hotel is a different grade. The building is probably at least 30-40 years old and everything was breaking down. The only redeeming factor is its proximity to the ferry terminals. But that's it.
