Excellent physical and social character throughout. They’ve made a solid effort to modernize — some of which work, some (like a faucet 10” above the bathroom sink basin) don’t.

Terrific ambiance and character

The stairs are a bit problematic for those of use with knee issues - otherwise a great place with true character and a fantastic restaurant and bar.

Quaint in . Famous too. The Navy Waves stayed here too back in WWII. There is no elevator so be prepared to walk up the stairs. The tub is too. high too for little legs. The memory form beds are OK. AC worked which was great too. Jazz on Sunday’s was excellent! Breakfast is excellent. The donuts are the best. The omelette was good and also the French toast.

Very interesting and unique artsy historic hotel. The location is great, right near Dupont Circle. The staff was polite and helpful. The architecture and artwork made every room of the hotel very interesting. No elevator so you must carry luggage up two or three flights of stairs. The bathroom was quite small which was OK for me but would be difficult for a larger person. The mattress seemed a little bit worn/not level. Some areas of the hotel and the room were a bit worn such as a couple small missing tiles, but it is historic, and the coziness and character of the hotel more than made up for it.

Loved the building and the surrounding area. It is old and probably in need of some updates in the bathrooms and electrical outlets. Despite those minor issues, I would go back.

Quirky, well located, and well worth the rate I paid. If you want a slick corporate cookie cutter room you should look elsewhere.

An old style boutique hotel with personality, historical decor, comfortable bed, good hot water pressure, plus a very nice restaurant downstairs. A drawback of the ‘personality’ is that there’s no elevator and some of the antique furnitures are, well, antique.

Old World Charm

Amazing place. Oldest continuously operating hotel in DC. Wonderful ambiance and charm along with a top notch restaurant and a cozy, welcoming fireplace lounge. It is a European-style boutique hotel with 35 rooms, each of which is different and special in its own way, with an eclectic mix of antiques, artwork, and room colors. There are no televisions in the rooms, no elevators and those who need to do some work on their laptops and don’t want to do so on a coffee table sitting on an antique couch with an extra pillow stuffed behind their backs or on an antique secretary’s desk can use one of the tables in the fireplace lounge or overflow dining rooms. One meets people who have a favorite room and have stayed at the Tabard Inn for 30 or 40 years, or had their wedding reception there, or attended one of the many charitable and special events that are held throughout the year. Since it is majority employee-owned, by people who feel that they are part of a family, they tend to take more care in going about their jobs, and pay attention to the little things that that make their guests smile.
