This hotel is for people who love to live the “experience”… It a monument and inside is like being in another era.

The Tabard Inn is a charming, European style hotel. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and the furnishings and bathrooms reflect this. Our room was quite large: two double beds, a couch, and a fireplace. The food is outstanding and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. If you are looking for a generic hotel with “modern amenities” this may not be the place for you. But if are looking for a charming hotel with great food and comfortable rooms I highly recommend the Tabard Inn.

Absolutely stunned to see any positive reviews for this hotel. The staff was very nice and that is about all I can say that is positive. The building and rooms are in need of a deep gut renovation. The walls, doors, shower, and sinks are decrepit. There is rust on everything. The didn’t drain properly. The AC is a window unit. There is no sound barrier — in my room I could hear staff vacuuming the restaurant and cleaning and patrons talking and eating. The bedroom/bathroom was just dirty. Stains on sheets and towels. Uncomfortable bed. Dirty floors. Smelly hallways. Very strange decor / art. I’m sorry to say but this was, by far, the worst hotel I’ve stayed at… do not do it!

You could certainly tell this is, in part, an employee owned establishment. Very prompt, conscientious and friendly service. The hotel design and decor is, itself, wonderfully entertaining if you like history and the eclectic. If you need bright and shiny, this is not the place for you. If you're more English pub, you'll be in heaven. I only ate breakfast in the restaurant. It was very good.

Overall, I liked the hotel. It is historic, it is well cared for, being over 100 years old, and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The food is good and the bar is great. My only complaints are: 1. No elevator - we were on the 4th floor, which is fine, but it did get tiring after 5 times in one day. 2. No coffee in the room. This goes with number one in that there is free coffee in the lobby, but we had to go down four flights and then back up with coffee to enjoy it in our room in bed. It would be fine with an elevator, but a cheap Keurig in the room would be a much better alternative. 3. The bathrooms are dated and not great. Some of them are shared, which you will know which one are when you book. We got a private one, and the shower was very very slow to heat up, and water got everywhere. The sink was not aligned with the faucet correctly, which resulted in a lot of water spilling onto the counter. The counter was sloped forward, which resulted in your hand washing water spilling all over your feet and the floor. 4. No, tv, but I understand that it's an old building with thin walls, not a huge deal. 5. The walls are thin, but that can't be helped really. Overall, I had a good stay, and I see the charm. However, for 4 nights it became a bit too much given the above. If I stay again, it will be for one night only. Please, put coffee makers in the rooms.

The hotel is quaint, charming, and historic. That said, it is quite difficult to maneuver around with multiple stories, stairwells, and NO ELEVATOR. If you have any mobility issues, this is not the place for you. We had to schlep our bags from the curb, through the lobby and dining room, up 2 flights of narrow stairs. I kept getting lost due to the fact that the interior is a warren of levels and staircases. The staff is nice but clueless. They wanted to put us on the 3rd floor! We should have been told about the access issues before booking. We will never again book a place assuming it has an elevator because clearly some do not. A first floor room transfer helped a bit but it was still arduous to get to the room transversing the lobby, bar, and dining room all of which had stairs!

The hotel is very old but charming as long as you understand that there will be no TV and the bathrooms will be a bit tight, but our room was large and comfortable. Two blocks from lots of dining and close to many sights. The food we had at the hotel was excellent. Will visit again!
