Stayed one night and that was enough. The carpets are stained and the whole place smells mouldy and old. Right out of the 70's. None of my requests at time of booking where accommodated. Staff where just OK but could not advise on eating places nearby. Seemed disinterested. Would not recommend.
3 nights stay at this Hotel. Lovely Receptionists, staff friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable, value for money, Hotel location very convenient. Excellent dining each night, recommend Lamb Rack, Eye Fillet and Chicken Ballantine. Would've liked to have used the swimming pool but weather too cold! Will be back in future.
We came here for one night on a business trip. The first thing that strikes you is the impressive entrance way, it's very striking. The check in staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. The room was nice and tidy with everything needed. The restaurant opened at 5.30. The food was more than plentiful and delicious. Breakfast in the morning was equally delicious Overall, the hotel is adequate. It provides good food and a place to sleep all at a reasonable price.
We had our orders taken about 7.15pm but it was at least two hours later that the meals started to dribble out. Some had finished eating by the time the last one was delivered. The barman was helping the waitress & his dress attire wasn't up to standard.I had fish & chips with salad (large leaves of lettuce put on the plate) for the cost of the meal I feel it was not good value. They really need to improve their service and presentation.
Very large complex, which is why we were there, for a large car club event. Room was satisfactory if dull, but hallways dark and all the carpets need replacing. Staff very badly organized - when expecting several hundred people for drinks they had only one barman on and the inexperienced person from check-in had to come and help. People got fed up waiting and went away and never ordered drinks from there again. Food was quite good and served well enough. The swimming pool had been vandalized the previous week but no major effort was being made to clean it out so in a heat wave we had no swimming facilities. The location was good, a pity about the hotel.
Ok this might not be the RITZ and after reading other people's reviews I did wonder what I'd booked. So when I arrived at this hotel I asked the lady if I could firstly look at the rooms no problem in fact she showed me more than one and said I could choose anyone I wanted. Then I asked to see the pool this was warm and clean but as it happened we did not find the time to get into it. Rooms serviced each day. I found all the staff I came in contact with pleasant and friendly.
We had a night's stayover before departing for Palmerston North, so found this a perfectly good alternative for a short-term stay. The Receptionist was pleasant and everything was in order in the room.
I'm guessing this complex had its heyday in the late 70's or early 80's, with little done to it since. It is dark and dingy probably to disguise the worn, wrinkled and stained carpet. The beds are out of the ark and sag like a hammock. Food ok to average like everybody's enthusiasm there. I would never stay here again as there are other establishments in town offering a lot more for the same price.
The advertising and images on the website bear no resemblance to the actual hotel which is dated and tired, clearly with antiquated systems as it took 15 minutes to issue a small tour group ahead of us with their keys. The price of the hotel is clearly based on its website images, not the outdated ensemble that awaits. Also don't be tempted by the minibar. $6 for pringles....when they are $2 across the road at the supermarket. The pool has (had?) potential....but we could not see the bottom as it was completely cloudy. Which is a bit dangerous given the steps inside the pool. Room was stocked with 2 towels for 3 people. Front counter staff didn't seem to know much about the hotel or what to do in any situation (such as the poor gentleman ahead of me in the quest to check in who was expecting 2 beds in his room and got 1 - he was basically told to suck it up), how to use the internet, and when the restaurant opened or closed. The walls are paper thin, with conversations in the hallway being especially easy to hear. At 4AM.
it you are wanting to stay in a hotel then this is not the place. It is a glorified motel. The day we arrived it was nearly empty so we were offered room service for breakfast, If you want a motel then I suppose this is satisfactory but we were expecting the facilities of a hotel and they are just not there.
