Horrible Stay: Cockroaches, No Support, and Misleading Communication. My spouse and I had an awful experience during our stay at Smartments Wien Hauptbahnhof from October 4–7, 2025. Communication with the property was nearly impossible from the beginning. I tried several times through WhatsApp and other channels to arrange an early check-in, but received no clear response for hours. When we finally checked in, we were shocked to find cockroaches and other bugs, including on the bed and surrounding surfaces. The property states that no staff is available on weekends, but there is an emergency line — unfortunately, it was completely useless. We called, texted, and emailed repeatedly, but no one ever replied. Even Hotels.com tried contacting them on our behalf and couldn’t get through to anyone. Adding to the frustration, their automated text bot was misleading, repeatedly assuring us that “our message had been forwarded to the team” and that someone would contact us shortly. We trusted that response and waited, but no one ever followed up. We eventually had to leave early because the conditions were unsanitary, unsafe, and completely unacceptable. This experience caused enormous stress and nearly ruined our trip. Until Smartments fixes its pest issue and implements real customer support instead of an unresponsive bot, I strongly recommend avoiding this property.

The check in was good. Communication all good. Easy to find. Really near to the railway station and walking distance to centre. Rooms were very clean and smelled fresh. Had everything you needed.

Communication and check-in or an absolutely horrible process. Their “AI” assistant is just a regular old customer support chat. Can’t do anything for you. It will just say “” and then no one will get back to you. DO NOT book this hotel if you plan on arriving evenings or weekends. At the Wien Hauptbahnhof location there is an actual human at the front desk during weekday daytime hours. It probably would be fine if you arrive during those hours. I arrived Sunday, and there was no one around. I was able to get in, but the slight price discount was not worth the stress. I will avoid these in the future.

I gave this four stars. For the price, it is five. Self check-in was easy. A block and a half from the Hauptbahnhof station. Good, varied dining options within a few blocks. Common areas in the building were a little worn, but our little apartment was clean and comfortable, including a small refrigerator, double burner stove and a microwave.

Very close to Vienna Main train station, which in contrary to the area of many other European train stations is rather quiet and clean. The area also offered numerous supermarkets and various good restaurant options within close vicinity.

Close to public transportation-train, bus. Two grocery stores within walking distance. Restaurants nearby. If you come after hours, you can’t get in the building to register until someone leaves the building to open the door. The front desk is open at such limited hours. Aside from trying to get in the building. It was good. I noted several people frustrated with getting in the building. Once you have your key from Check in, it is easy.

Very convenient right next to the main train station. Not particularly an area of interest beyond that, but well connected. No soaps provided in the bathroom, so bring your own. Could not find an air conditioning control, so just opened windows. Easy to get into, though fully automated—no personnel on site. Had to request the confirmation number by messaging them through Hotels.com after booking, because the Hotels.com confirmation number will not pull up your reservation. Recommend doing this far in advance of showing up.

Clean room. Walkable to the train station. Communication and follow-up with the hotel are very good. Everything is done through WhatsApp messages. You can do prior check-in on your phone and just collect your key at the hotel. We reached around 11pm and had to use the self-service system to get our keys. We stayed one night and the next day we stored our bags at Vienna train station and took the U1 metro line to Old Town. The hotel room was good for 1 night. It was end of September and although there was a fan in the room, we still felt hot. Overall, apart from the fact that they don't have air conditioners, I would definitely recommend to stay at this hotel especially during cooler seasons.

Great location near main station and good supply of kitchenware with cutlery and dish washer can use, but a bit disappointed that no dish washing capsules provided, it required to buy it on our own and we won't expected to buy a bulky pack of capsules along the trip (it better mention in advance and we can bring some capsule from home), also no coffee capsules refilled during our four nights stay.
