This hotel is decorated in a lovely, traditionally-Austrian, style. The rooms are a treat for the eyes. However, the internet was terrible! It didn't work 50% of the time, which is unacceptable given the price of this hotel! I needed the internet for maps, tickets, etc., but ended up going to McDonalds to use theirs! Also, their reception is under-staffed. Every time I walked passed, there was a queue and just one person serving.
The Mercure hotel is in a small alley close to the town hall. The location is really convenient for sightseeing, the old town and museum area can be reached within a few minutes walking distance. For a trip to the Danube or Schönbrunn, you can eg take the red hop-on-hop-off bus from the museum district. The service in the hotel is friendly, but was a bit slow, when we arrived. The room was clean and well furnished. One big plus, breakfast is offered until 12, hence no hurry during vacation.
The hotel is quite nice, I stayed in the privilege area. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast in the morning is quite nice, especially if you can enjoy the patio outside. For the cons: the wifi is absolutely terrible, impossible to use, also in their "business center" (which is a mac computer connected to the same wifi of the hotel). Air conditioning is quite powerful, even a little too much, and hard to regulate. There is no fitness center, which is quite strange for a 4 stars hotel. Location is great, short walk from the Museum Quarter.
We stayed there for three days with my wife and baby girl. Staff was totally unprofessional and looked like they were just waiting for their time to finish to go home. I have requested an invoice for my company from last night and I made sure I gave all details to the reception well in advance. I arrived there just a few minutes before departure for the airport and the lady has issued a faulse invoice. So we took it again from the beginning 15 minutes to issue an invoice and with a plane leaving in two hours. The bed of the room was two single beds united and with two single duvet. That made it very uncomfortable for a couple to stay together. BREAKFAST DISGUSTING: Unfortunately before my wife notice I have already eaten a cake which was full of MOLD!! I have given it to the waiter and the only thing he did was to clear the rest of the cake from the buffet. Not a single apology. Needless to say that my stomach has suffered for the two next days and still does making my trip in Vienna not the most pleasant memory. I am seriously thinking to make a legal sue against them! I find it unacceptable to pay 30 euros for a breakfast and find mold in it.
The hotel is located on a quiet street very close the the Museum Quarter. We didn't have breakfast because it was expensive compared to the excellent fayre offered 30m away at a highly rated(TA) cafe. However each to their own. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and the staff really friendly and helpful.
The renovated hotel room we had was top, nice breakfast terrace, however dangerous high thresholds in towards the breakfast restaurant; restaurant closed for lunch and dinner. Situated in a quiet street. City centre walking distance.
I have stayed in this hotel a number of times and I have never been disappointed. The service and standard of the rooms are excellent and there is also a good selection for breakfast as well. If your going book the newly refurbished wing as the rooms have all new fittings and furnishings. Worth a visit.
We stayed here for a citytrip to the wonderfull city of Vienna. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the staff helpful and friendly. The best thing in the hotel is the breakfast. It has everything you could want in a breakfast and more. The breakfast lasts until 12 o'clock so there is no need to hurry and it means that it isn't too busy. The only downside you could experience is that the free wifi is only for 1GB so no streaming :-( We loved our stay and would recommend it.
When you first walk into this hotel after the surprise of the 'not so nice' street view. You could be mistaken into thinking that the four stars it has been awarded are merited. In fact the only parts of the hotel that merit four stars are the public areas. We were given the keys to our room and made our way up in the lift, to the shabbiest room I have had the misfortune to be allocated. I left the cases there and returned to reception where I was given another slightly larger, slightly less shabby room. I don't know if these rooms are given to those booking on this website or if this is the standard of all of the rooms. If it is, steer clear. Don't get me wrong most all of the staff were pleasant and helpful and they are a credit to Mecure. However based on the quality of the room I would struggle to award three stars. The bathroom was falling to bits and badly designed, the shower was hanging off the wall and the screen was square to fit a curved corner bath meaning water went everywhere. The tap on the wash hand basin was activated by a sensor, making brushing your teeth a task in its self with one hand against the sensor to ensure the water ran and washing your face almost impossible. Each day a 'no smoking, sign was placed on our bed, we booked the room knowing it was non-smoking so this felt a little bizarre especially given the nicotine coloured wallpaper adorning the walls. There was an up-holstered chair in the room covered in dirty marks. There were two bottles of complimentary water in the fridge - both sparkling. When we asked for still water we were told we would have to pay for it? No coffee facilities and no ironing facilities in the rooms (you could access an ironing room with your room key, I don't have mine with me when I was shown to this room and earned a tut and dirty look for this). Our room key had to be re-keyed three times in five days, as they still have the magnetic strip rather that the easier chip that a lot of hotels use now. Overall this didn't ruin our holiday but it did mean that we spent as little time as possible in the hotel. When I said that the room did not look anything like the picture on the website, I was told that there were lots of different rooms and they couldn't add a picture of them all. The room I was led to believe I would receive when I booked was open and bright with parquet flooring. The room we received was dark and dingy with a hideous carpet my gran would turn her nose up at. Additionally sound proofed rooms are advertised. In reality we were woken early most mornings with the sound of people walking in high heels. To conclude, if you are used to, or looking for a touch of luxury or even just a clean looking room don't book here. PS - when I was taken to the ironing room, I saw what looked to be another reception (unmanned) with another entrance and wonder if this side of the hotel is any better??
The hotel is located in an unbeatable place, close to everything that a person needs to visit Vienna, and to be able to walk. All the people we meet at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, always willing to help. A recommendable hotel
