Hotel San Marco City Resort & Spa4.0 out of 5.0

We chose this hotel because being a 25 minute walk from the city centre and Arena area, it was a good deal cheaper. It is basic but clean and has most things needed for a one or two night stay. Usefully, the hotel offers a complimentary return bus run from the Arena on opera nights, which we used and found very efficient. There is little in the way of restaurants or bars close by, apart from a small bar opposite, which was closed for a private function on the night we arrived. We did manage to find a 'Sports Bar' about a 10 minute walk away, however, and that was fun. The room was comfortable but the bathroom is small and cluttered and the beds very hard. All in all, though, this hotel is just fine for a short stay.
We chose this hotel because of its pool and location and wern't disappoined. However when our daughter read some of the reviews of this hotel she wondered what we were taking her to, but her fears were totally unfounded. Hotel reception staff always friendly and helpful. Responded promptly and possitively to e-mails prior to arrival. We had two rooms, both good size, clean, quiet and comfortable. Modern bathroom with excellent shower. Brakfast offered an overall good selection. Hot breakfast was limited to bacon, scrambled eggs and boiled eggs which we thought was fine. 20/25 minute walk to Arena, or 2 Euro bus ride, or typically 8 Euro taxi fare. Convenient for train station (5 minute bus ride). Taxi to airport approx. 25 Euro. Pool area was great for relaxing, very clean (as was all of the hotel), with plenty of seating and loungers, and friendly bar staff. Hire of pool towel 2 Euro covered all of our stay.
Bed was like sleeping on an ironing board. Cheap furniture. Balcony constantly covered in pigeon poo and never cleaned. 2 euro every time you want a pool towel. No coffee or tea making facilities. Fridge was warm and didn't work. No beverages in fridge, coke, juice wine beer etc. The shower was a joke. It looked very modern but was so poorly designed it was impossible to shower without the entire room and walls being soaked in wAter. The glass is not high enough so water covered all our toiletries, blow dryer etc. Jets squirted straight in your eyes. Nothing luxurious about this place. It also says it's close to town but it's in a bad area and costs 15 euro into the city. Front desk staff were lovely but the hotel is cheaply done and certainly does not provide what you would expect from a 4 star.
My husband and I found exceptional service and helpful staff at the San Marco in Verona. We found English speaking staff who were friendly and informative, suggesting restaurants and travel options. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. We especially appreciate how honestly, kindly, and efficiently they helped us arrange for return of a new watch that we left in our room. Verona was a highlight of our trip from Florence through to Venice.
Very old ageing hotel, very small rooms, some of the must basic facilities are missing. You don't even have a coffee machine or a facility to press your clothes in the room. It's not even value for money.
We had a view of the old and new rooms. Half our family was booked into a new room and the other half in an old room with an old fashioned manual key that you leave at the desk when you leave. The modern room was very nice. The older room was average and probably a 3 star rating. Bed was hard. The hotel is nice and clean and not too far from the city center. We just grabbed a cab and for €10-12 we were in the Piazza Bra'. This hotel has a decent cold breakfast not much warm items, plenty of pastries, fruit and assorted items. Quite a variety. Front desk staff was nice and accommodating. Book with the hotel and ask for a new room and you should be pleased.
We visited this hotel for 2-day city break. It is 4 star but we did not have a 4-star experience, although all of our dealings with staff were very good; they were always friendly and very helpful. On arrival our room had a sopping wet towel on the bathroom floor, the air con didn't seem to work, the sink leaked, the handheld part of the shower was hanging by a 'thread', the safe deposit box had no instructions and we had to wait nearly half an hour for someone to come and demonstrate how it worked (it wasn't obvious). The TV remote didn't work properly (flat battery) and the aerial wire had been pulled out from the sockets at each end and was hanging from the TV with exposed wires at both ends. Things were fixed when pointed out but we feel we shouldn't have had to point them out in the first place. The breakfast was in our view poor and nowhere near what we've had in other 4 star hotels: here the coffee was poor, bread was poor quality, there were peaches and oranges by way of fresh fruit but no fresh fruit salad, scrambled egg not properly cooked; all very 'packaged' feel about the food. Overall it had the feel of a 3 star hotel.
The neighborhood is not beautiful, nor is the hotel (4 stars?), but it is clean and comfortable. When I stayed most of the customers (seen at breakfast) looked foreign tourist (probably looking for something cheaper than the hotel of the beautiful city centre) or sales representatives using it as a base. It has an outdoor swimming pool in the courtyard, surrounded by condominiums, and I wander who might ever be tempted to use it. There is also a conference centre with meeting rooms.
Well I wouldn't say the hotel was a 4 star more a 3 but still pleasant enough. Didn't spend to much time in hotel as Verona arena is beautiful so went there the days we stayed. It's such a shame that the wedding planner is a total scammer. She recommended the hotel to stay as was close to everything and at a price of €165 a night we though ok we will book with her!!! What a fool I was. Friends of ours stayed in the same hotel as us for the wedding which I must add (wasn't at that hotel and was not the bride and grooms fault) but didn't go through the wedding planner and paid €85 a night!!!!!!!!!!! So we paid 100% more than them. I was actually so shocked. What an absolute con. I wish I had time to question the hotel but due to leaving on a Sunday taxi were sparse so we had to check out and go. The hotel clearly are in on this scam with the wedding planner!!!!! I will go back to Verona but will not be staying in that hotel!!!!
Hotel is clean, with helpful staff and breakfast is good. Rooms could do with uplift but on the whole an enjoyable place to stay. Although this is not right in the centre it's near enough to walk in, apt 10/15 mins. Zen bar in the square is nice and served good food. Lastly open top bus ride is a must!
