Parador De Verin Ourense

It is an essential Pardor with everything you learn to expect of a Parador (good and less). Good: the surroundings/location, less its distance to facilities, basic bedroom, personel motivation ... You need a car. The restaurant is Ok but not special.

Two parador so right next to each other. The old castle was gorgeous, nice room, very up to date, only its July and there's no air conditioning, so went to one next door. Nice room, but older, but worn. Has everything needed for one night stay. Breakfast just ok, nothing special. They did have a nespresso machine, very nice! Why do they have such small beds? Great sheets, tho!

We stayed at the Parador called Monterrei / Verin and I am not sure which is the correct name as there are two, one within 2 kms of the other, and both under the same management. Monterrei, was once a fortified castle, facing Portugal, and has been recently converted which is where we stayed. We were given a tour of the castle and on climbing one of the two main towers, one could see into where the architects had built a honey-come style of pinewood cubicles which formed the nucleus for the newly designed five-room accommodation within this thirteen century castle, which once housed King Peter the Cruel (Pedro el Cruel) and his army. Until work is complete one has to travel five minutes across from one parador to the other (Monterrei to Verin) for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Verin Parador is well established and has some 25 rooms but the excitement lies in staying next door at Monterrei with its 12 or 13th century church which is included in the tour if staying at Monterrei. All most interesting and with incredible views of the lovely mountainous countryside. A well worth stay.

We spent two nights here in order to escape the relentless Galician rain on the coast. Magnificent breakfast, comfortable beds, helpful staff whose English easily outranked my faltering Spanish. If you have time, go visit Chaves (in Portugal) and Ourense. Be warned, the swimming pool is icy!

This parador is situated in a relatively simple converted farm house. The setting is quite spectacular. The rooms were comfortable and sensibly planned and the bathroom worked well in every repect, if quite simple. The dinner was delicious and included in the price of the hotel room and, from what we saw of the little town nearby, it's probably the best option any way to eat at the hotel. There were only a few guests at the time when we visited this parador but everything worked well. It is highly recommended as a stop in between destinations, but I'm not sure if I would make this parador a destination in itself.

A Parador I hadn't visited before and I was pleasantly surprised to find this lovely quite small (for a Parador) hotel perched on a hill overlooking the town of Verin. Some 27 rooms, rustic and comfortable supported by a friendly and helpful staff where nothing was too much trouble for them. Angel on reception deserves special mention as he made our stay both memorable and comfortable. A lovely calm setting with good food and a great ambiance, we loved it.

This place is out of the way, a small hotel, I think I may have been one of 2 guests. I was picking up my wife in Santiago the next day so this was a great stopover. Next to the hotel is a ruined castle with museum, a stormy night complete with lightning made for an eerie view from my hotel that I will never forget

Family had adventure in the highlands and asked townspeople where to stay. Parador was recomended. It is a gem of a place. The view of the valley and Portugual is amazing during the day and night. Hotel staff was amazing as my daughters wanted to go on a bike ride in the morning. Front desk came out in the rain to repair one of the bikes so they can go on their ride. That is huge for me!!!!

We stayed at the Parador in Verin as part of a parador tour (using the Parador website itinery but making our own way between hotels). This wasn't our first night, but for some reason the hotel had left a complimentary bottle of wine and some cake in the room, which was a great start to a nice stay and actually made an otherwise OK hotel feel a bit special. I think the parador is actually modern, but built in a traditional style. I'm not convinced the suit of armour in reception is real but otherwise it's done quite well and has a bit of character. It really lives on its proximity to the real history which is the fortress next door. We did stop off in Verin, but found nothing of particular interest there except a confusing one way system and a few specialist deli's which were worth visiting to salivate at the cold meats and check out the local wines. Everything was clean and efficient - although the bathroom could have done with a refurb. The lady who was serving drinks in the afternoon was also the waitress in the evening and apparently was cleaning earlier in the day, so I'll forgive her slight grumpiness. Food was OK, though not exceptional. This is the only parador I stayed in where the 3 course set meal didn't defeat me, although my wife choices would have done.

This hilltop Parador is an oasis of peace and tranquility 3 km outside the market town of Verin. It overlooks the Monterrei valley with Portugal just 20 km to the south. After exploring the mountainous countryside and villages of this corner of Galicia during the day, we returned to the Parador to enjoy delicious cuisine and warm hospitality.
