The room is fabulous, the decor modern. The location is excellent, being close to the palace of the pipes and the bridge and the breakfast (continental mainly) you couldn't want more. However, I wish we had not overlooked past reviews that mention the smell, these date back several years and this has not been rectified just masked by an over bearing air freshener. To be greeted on arrival by an over powering smell of sewage (it's worse in the under ground parking) made for a poor impression and the smell is noticeable all the time in the foyer. Such a shame as if it was not for this we would book again for future visits but the drainage needs to be sorted and it's not to do with mistral winds, flooding as mentioned in previous responses. It has to be a drainage issue as this smell was not a problem in other locations/venues within Avignon. I really hope this addressed as its not pleasant for guests nor surely for the staff who have to breathe in that smell!

Stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Mercure in Avignon, France. Overall the room was modern and lovely except the beds were very hard and difficult to sleep on. The lobby furniture was not suitable to the modern vibe that the hotel was trying to portray - Low to the ground and not comfortable at all. As a group we did have two dinners in the hotel restaurant which was FANTASTIC!! Staff were pleasant and always willing to help. Location was awesome and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. Bathroom was very modern and great except no plug at all for hair dryer or flat irons etc.. only a plug for electric shaver...this makes it very awkward when trying to get ready and you have hair flying all over the place other then the bathroom, but this is a common thing in Europe not unique to this hotel. There was a safe and fridge, window opened but no balcony in our room. We loved Avignon!

Rooms were a decent size and the location in Avignon was very good. Breakfast was good with a decent selection. Car parking was in the main multi story which was quite difficult to find spaces. There is very limited parking near the hotel lobby for dropping off bags.

We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Pont d'Avignon - nice and central and easy to walk everywhere in the old city. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent buffet breakfast each day and nice clean rooms.

This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed in the South of France. Very attentive staff and the hotel seemingly just had a renovation, so it looked and felt great. Fantastic location (not that Avignon is a large town)

Lovely hotel. All staff, through to the cleaners were v polite and welcoming. It is rustic but modern, room comfortable and brilliant air con! Needed as it was 34 outside and stifling. Perfect location for all the sights. Loved Avignon and would be back to this hotel. Great shower, breakfast was nice and even though taxi to TGV took a while (traffic) the driver was very friendly!

After carefully read all the reviews among Avignon, St.Remy and B&B options, I chose this hotel as a base to explore Provence by car in 3 days. I upgraded the room to an privilege room. It’s quite spacious, with in room Nespresso machine and Soda offered. Just like many travelers described, the lobby smells funny, the receptionists were not helpful at all. I tried to ask them for restaurants bookings or pointers of our day trips, received minimum help or information. The room is spacious, but WIFI was terrible, the worst WIFI we had in France, cannot even backup a single picture to the icloud or google cloud. Because it’s a day trippers’ town, though all three windows of our room are facing main streets, we barely noticed any noise at night. This hotel is connected to the covered parking, fairly easy to find parking at end of the day. That’s a big plus for us, since people mentioned how hard it is to drive inside the wall. We paid 8-12 Euro per day for an overnight parking. Being inside the wall, we can walk to many good restaurants, ice-cream shops, and saw some actions at night. I jogged along the wall in the morning, get to admire the architect of the city, stonewalls, secrets paths, beautiful river outside the wall. The breakfast buffets were adequate and inexpensive, other than you don’t get gourmet omelets and an expressos you typically may get from an 4 star hotel. The room service is inconsistent- somedays, we had Nespresso pods refilled but no coffee cups. Someday, we did not receive enough bath towels and toiletries for three people. The bed is not very comfortable, particularly the sofa-bed. Be careful with the shower doors. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, because of the location, convenient parking and the value. Just reset your expectations for the receptions, hotel amenities...

This hotel is in a great location. Pity about the overall experience. We arrived early afternoon and found our way straight to the designated parking centre only to be told it was full and even as hotel guests we couldn't enter. So 20 minutes later we finally found somewhere to leave the car and embark on the 10 minute walk, with our luggage, to the hotel. Rooms are typical chain hotel rooms. Well equipped but a bit cramped. The safe in the room didn't work. The bar wasn't open to provide a drink mid- afternoon and it wasn't open for a nightcap when we returned after dinner. Breakfast was good but residents were exposed to a skating experience as a cleaner happily mopped the tiled corridoor without putting up warning signs. All in all a pretty average experience.

... the AC worked flawlessly, which was important given that it was hot, humid, and sweaty when i was there. I actually had to do some business when I was there, and the reception printed several documents for me ... free of charge! Only drawback is the design of the window placement. Even though I am 1.85 metres, I had to stand at the window to see the view, which would have been lovely.

This hotel was clean, rooms were spacious and the bathroom was modern and clean. Bedding was a bit rough for my liking, but overall it was comfortable. We spent 4 nights here, and I would definitely stay here again. On our 3rd day we rented a car and headed to Nice and the 4th day headed to Nimes. The hotel's parking garage is convenient and easy to access.. though driving inside the ramparts of Avignon can be a little tricky. One downside, like a lot of hotels, wifi is pretty slow. But more importantly the AC worked perfectly. Hotel staff were very accommodating, polite and helpful. Anything we asked for our asked for help with they happily provided.
