Beautiful building with a lot of history. Amazing video tour as a part of the experience. Since there is no original furniture they made a video version and one could see a whole room set up on their screen while in reality you look at the empty rooms.
Slightly confusing trying to park. Finished up in local multi story car park and carried overnight bags to hotel about 10 mins walk. They were very friendly and advised about a regularly used closer car park if we wanted to move. We didn't worry. Comfortable room. Nice and clean. Very convenient on the square.
The hotel is in a great location. We had Room 54 facing the square, nicely furnished. We had booked this hotel because we had such informative and lovely email correspondence with Alina, the front desk clerk in the mornings. She was so helpful about choice of room, advice about parking, and reserving a taxi for us at the Avignon TGV station, that we prepaid for our reservation at the Kyriad. Imagine our surprise when we got up the first morning to find no hot water! (after traveling a whole day before). Alina very nicely explained that the plumber had been called the day before and tried to fix the problem but was unable to. She said no plumbers in Avignon would work on the weekends, but the problem would be fixed early on Monday morning. We complained that the Hotel should be willing to pay overtime to have the problem fixed, but she said it was the director's choice not hers. We were offered free breakfast or refund of 1/2 the 2 days tariff for the 2 days without water. When we returned to the hotel late Monday afternoon after a day of sight seeing, the afternoon clerk told us the water had been fixed. We should have taken a shower right then, but were too tired and went to bed. Imagine our frustration when Tuesday morning we again had no hot water. Alina explained that the problem had re-occurred. We asked Alina to book us a room at another hotel close by. She made an excellent choice for us that even included valet parking at the same rate as we had paid at the Kyriad. Because we were off to another day of sight seeing, she even offered to take our two carry-on bags to the new hotel when she was off duty at 2. Alina was friendly, very intelligent, very solution oriented and most of all kind. She definitely has management skills that any hotel should value highly. As for the Kyriad management, they definitely didn't use good judgement in allowing there to be no hot water for at least 3 days (that we knew of.) The male desk clerk should have told us when we checked in.
I had a memorable stay at the Kyriad. The hotel is situated right in the central Place de l'Horlodge s2 minutes walk from the Palais des Papes close to bustling restaurants, bars and shops. The room was fine for a solo traveller, clean, well maintained and quiet. Tea making facilities were available and beverages were replenished daily. The bed was comfy with good quality linen. It offers air-conditioned rooms equipped with cable TV, courtesy tray and great Wi-Fi. It was lovely coming back each day to fresh bottled water and biscuits. The bed was so comfortable with good quality linen. The all you can eat buffet breakfast was excellent value at 8 Euro with a wide choice of items. Where the Kyriad excels is in its customer service. Staff could not have been more polite, helpful and acttentive. I was keen to get on a vineyard tour. Although it was quite late, Hassan did his very best phoning 3 tour operators, but unfortunately everything was fully booked. Normann made some brilliant restaurant and shopping suggestions that really made my trip worthwhile. What I also liked was that unlike some hotels, there were very few rules and I didn’t need to hand my key in each time. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely come back.
Comfortable, clean rooms, medium sized. Buffet breakfast of good quality, and for 8 Euros that is great good value for money. You cannot be located more centrally in Avignon, just in front of the Opera and a 3 minutes walk from the Pope's Palace. Be prepared for a small reception, however with a very serviceminded staff! We vere a group of 11 people receiving qualified assistance by Norman, Hassan and Alina to find good restaurants and transportation to the wineries in the area.
I got a room here at a very good prepaid rate and, after scanning the other reviews, requested a top floor room facing the square. We arrived early and the front desk clerk was very nice and, when I asked about my requests, gave us what we had asked for but told us it would not be ready until 3 (check in time) but went ahead and gave us a ticket with our room number and wifi info, etc. We were tired so we were anxious to lay down a bit when we came back at 3 but there was a different clerk and he told us our room still was not ready. So we wandered around another 40 minutes and came back. He handed us a different ticket with a room that was not on the top floor and we complained that we already had a room but he said that room was no longer available. We tried to argue that our room had been given away but he was unwilling to change it and, indeed, the manager was there who haughtily said that the first desk clerk had been "too nice" in giving us the first room. Since we had no choice and at least it was facing the square, we went up and realized that the room had a garret ceiling (on which we kept bumping our heads, way too much furniture (I actually had to pad the corners so we would not injure ourselves and only had half windows from the floor to about 2 1/2 feet up the wall so the only "view" of the square was a few inches out of the bottom of the window if you sat on the floor (which we did for awhile but we are in our late 60's and so it was not idea)l. The hotel is in a great location and is clean and well decorated but I was really disappointed that I was given such a poor room when we had booked through the website (and I did not appreciate the manager's attitude).
Second stay in this excellent hotel. Once again the staff were great, ample buffet breakfast and clean room. As mentioned before the location is unbeatable right in the heart of things with decent bars and restaurants in the immediate area. Must say our room was brilliant the only one with a view of the Popes palace. Will be back.
If you are looking for an affordable hotel with a superb location in Avignon, this hotel is it. Do not expect a 5 star luxury hotel, but the Kyriad is way better than the 2 star that they carry. Their staff was wonderful with us Plus I never met a more helpful hotel manager than Hassan. In other words, for value, location and helpful staff, this hotel will be very hard to beat.
This hotels location was its blessing and also its downfall, for us anyway. Right in the heart of Avignon and beautiful views but then finding it was a nightmare and we couldn't get anywhere near in the car. Air con didn't work and also advertised as parking included but there was a charge which bugs me but staff were friendly and helpful.
The Kyriad Avignon is a lovely small hotel in the magnificent Plaza de Horloge. The staff is amazing. Alina goes out of her way to cater to all needs. She arranged the most amazing Provence tours with an incredible company. She was also incredibly kind to me and my son, helping us with all concerns and showing us all hotel amenities. She personally helped with my son who was truly anxious on his first trip to France and I could not thank her enough! Hassan was also incredibly kind and helpful! He is a true gentleman who wants to assure his guests a beautiful time in a magnificent city. He helped me arrange transportation for a smooth departure to the the train station. He couldn't be nicer! The Kyriad is located in the perfect spot for exploration of Provence. Tours assemble feet away from the hotel. Guides pick up and deliver. Avignon is the best city to visit for your stay to Provence since all transportation to the gorgeous hilltop towns is assured fro this center. We visited all of Provence and we explored the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. You can also explore the Camargues with tours that leave Avignon. The hotel itself provides a roomy room with convenient amenities such as a standard shower, drawers for bath and beauty accoutrement, a blow dryer, a refrigerator, storage areas, etc. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the air conditioning is excellent. The location is perfect and the value is incomparable. This is a hotel that is a must stay for anyone who wants kindness, helpfulness, cleanliness, and quality at an affordable price. Moreover, the breakfast offerings are above and beyond excellent. The breakfast is much more than standard continental. The staff is multi-lingual and I highly recommend this hotel.
