We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel de L'Horloge very much. We had a room with a terrace which we used in the evening and morning. The hotel is in a wonderful location right in the center of the Place de L'Horloge. We easily walked to all of the sites and restaurants. The staff were very helpful with our check in and out. They made recommendations that places to eat and shop. The room was lovely, very clean and comfortable. We felt as though we had a true European experience.
Hotel de l'Horloge has a strange layout, a funky rabbit-warren of a place, with hallways going off every which way. Although there is an elevator, you are still likely to have several steps to climb once you arrive at your floor. Our room was small and dark, and although in March the hotel was clearly not fully booked, staff said it was, and we were not offered a complimentary upgrade. They wanted a surprisingly high additional fee for an upgrade, which after viewing these supposedly "upgraded" rooms, was clearly not worth it. The best thing about the hotel is the location, which is very central, within easy walking distance of all the major points of interest. (But keep in mind that the town isn't very large, and if you are reasonably mobile, you can walk just about anywhere anyway.) The breakfast buffet was sufficient, served in a quite pleasant room. If I return to Avignon, I would choose to stay at a different hotel.
We travelled to France to attend a family wedding. We picked Avignon as our first stop after getting off a long flight from Canada. Rick Steves recommended this hotel. We were not disappointed. We were upgraded to a junior suite on arrival. Everything was great with hotel. Breakfast awesome well worth having in place as many restaurants weren't open first thing in am. Only difficulty we had was finding the place. We drove and had a GPS but spent a long time finding the hotel once we were inside the walls of Avignon.
about a half kilometer walk from the train station, but once you get here, a very nice central location with lots of eating options in the square out front. Breakfast was very nice with full range of options. Just a few steps to many great sights.
We went to this hotel as part of a wine tour package around France. All aspects of the hotel were excellent and I would recommend hotel de l'horloge to anyone. Great location close to restaurants and tourist sites.
Super central but quiet location, as a starting point for your day trips ,friendly staff are on hand to assist with all activities, the hotel building fits more into the old town picture,a longer stay with other room choice would be imaginable.
Hotel was located close to the Pope's Palace and the main Avignon public square. Breakfasts were fresh with a wide selection of options. Hotel staff were very helpful and spoke English contributing to our ease of getting around and recommending the best of Avignon to us.
My husband and I stayed two overnights in Hotel de l'Horloge. We had a nice large corner room. The service was good and they were very welcoming to our little dog. Great location for easy access to anything you would want to do in the beautiful town of Avignon!
So we booked the best room in the hotel - a suite- which was so disappointing. It's a dark old fashioned room with a view of the roof and the 'suite' is a tiny loft space with a desk in that you have to bend to get in because it's made up of roof space. Shower was just a pipe - no power at all and everything was dusty and old looking. The wardrobe was a cupboard under the window that you couldn't hang anything in as it was so low to the floor! All this would have given it 3 stars. But on departure we were asked about having champagne from the minibar. There was hardly anything in the minibar when we arrived so we told them we hadn't had it. The man on reception (Lei) then shrugged and said you have to pay for it! After strongly protesting and the manager eventually allowing us not to pay for something we didn't have(!) Lei then sulkily carried out the rest of our check out! When customers are paying £600 to stay in a suite of your hotel, you need to take their word that they're not just trying to get away without paying for a cheap bottle of fizz!! Appalling service. Wouldn't stay here again.
Excellent hotel, great location -- 5 mins to Palais des Papes -- and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Somewhat difficult to park and unload, but paid parking at Palais des Vapes with voucher helpful once checked in.
