Avignon Grand Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed at this hotel for 7 nights as a family of 4 in 2 rooms. The rooms we had were very spacious and clean. All staff very pleasant and helpful. We didn't have breakfast included but there are lots of lovely bakeries nearby to get your morning croissants. There is a very small pool on the roof with some sunbeds. It is only 5 minutes away from Avignon Central station and another 10 minute walk to the main sights of Avignon. We travelled from London by Eurostar to Paris and then caught the train from Paris Lyon to Avignon TGV and then caught the shuttle train to Avignon Central. Loved Avignon, lots of amazing places to visit and also surrounding area (Orange & Nimes) which we saw by getting a bus from the main bus station next to train station. Spoilt for choice for restaurants, we had some fantastic meals. Would definitely recommend this hotel and town and hope to visit again as we didn't have enough time to see everything we wanted to.
We stayed here two nights; had a very nice room with a balcony though the little chairs and table were dirty (bird poop) so we opted not to sit outside. It was a good location; right across the street from the walled city with lots of restaurants and interesting things to see. Also right across from the train station; also helpful. ENJOYED the hotel-provided breakfasts for guests only. And most of the staff were very helpful. They do have in-room safes. Electricity doesn't go on unless guests put their CARD KEY in the fixture at the front door of their room. We 'learned' this our first night there. Guess that's how they save electricity. Be aware if you come early, you'll need to store luggage. We did that but had to ask for claim checks as the first person who greeted us didn't seem to have that process down. Other than that, the hotel served us fine. Some staff are friendly; others not. One young man helped us try to figure out the train station rules re help for travelers who need special assistance. He even took the time to search on line. Though he wasn't able to get us a specific answer, he was helpful the next day explaining our needs to our cab driver. Definitely a plus for those of us who don't speak French.
The hotel is handy for the town and very close to the train station, for a flying visit that's good but it's just 'ok' verging on 'poor'. I wrongly operated on what I'd expect from a UK 4 star. This isn't close. First room we were given, a wall of smoke smell hit us when we walked in. Walked straight back out and asked for a second room. Staff were very polite and gave us a new room, which was fine. It was small, had a little shared balcony (which felt a bit scruffy and the chairs on it impossible to sit comfortably on). Bathroom and bed clean, by shower head had trouble staying up. Only one towel and one 'hair and body gel' for us to share - I am sure they would have corrected this but just couldn't be bothered after the fuss of getting a second room. Pool is a good addition, but not heated. Was 30 degrees out and still freezing so good it's there but you're not going to spend an age in it. Terrace is a sun trap if you like sun bathing. Staff are very helpful and speak multiple languages. All in all there isn't any one thing I'd point to being terrible - which is why I rated average insteadk of poor - it's just not a 4* experience and is a bit dated/cramped.
Definitely not the four star hotel we thought we were booking . In a great spot, so close to the Avignon train station and the city centre . We stayed for five nights during the Avignon festival which was great . We found a couple of the staff very helpful and friendly especially on check in but really most of the staff were not that special and seemed uninterested . On the second day my wife asked for an iron - it never arrived . On the third day my wife asked for an iron - it never arrived. On the fourth day my wife asked for an iron - it never arrived . On the fifth day ( the day we were leaving ) hooray an iron turned up . The bed was very hard and uncomfortable and again we asked for a mattress topper to soften it . Luckily this only took two nights to arrive. We found the breakfasts sat around average as well . There is a small roof top pool was seemed really cold even though the weather was warm . All in all not the worst but not that good either.
Located very close to Avignon station, I had a room with a garden view and it's own sitting room. Everything there you could want, spotless, lovely bathroom, complementary water, wi fi, tea and coffee making facilities, Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Just outside the ramparts so convenient for shops and restaurants. Really enjoyed my stay here.
We stayed one night here as we continued heading to Paris. Each room was over $200 USD - it should have been priced under $100 for what is offered. The air conditioner was a stand alone unit taking up a good portion of the living room and was vented out the open window resulting in a very warm room. The blankets need to be replaced - they are old and scratchy - yuck. The beds are hard and uncomfortable. While I realize that the hotel location is right outside the wall of the town, the inside needs to match the price it is fetching from tourists.
Well located. Very close to Festival Avignon. Room is clean and staffs are friendly. Swimming pool is a little bit small but well managed. Indoor parking garage is just near by the hotel and convenient.
This is a LARGE hotel situated just outside the city walls. We could comfortably stroll Into the city at night. The parking is located on the first street to the right of the hotel is you are facing it, €15 a day. Once inside there are elevators to access the hotel. It's a large hotel with friendly reception. We didn't eat here. Our room was large and comfortable with a shower and a bath. There was a portable aircon in our room, assuming the main aircon did not work. Not sure I would agree with the price paid for the accommodations, but given the timing with the festival, there were few options. We did have a fridge (which was helpful with all the wines purchased in the area).
Very conveniently located by to the city wall and close to the train station, the Grand Hotel is a very good choice in Avignon. Rooms are spacious, updated and very clean. Breakfast is often included in the rate. There is also a small swimming pool, which is a plus. Staff are courteous and efficient.
There were three of us on our stay at the Avignon Grand Hotel. Our room was more like a suite than a room with two large beds, sitting room and a large bathroom. The breakfast was well stocked and fresh. A pool and lounge chairs are located on the roof. The city wall and the attractions it holds is across the street while the train station is around the corner. There are two train stations in Avignon with the Grand next to the central station and is not served by the TGV. The TGV station is a five minute train ride away.
