The listing makes this property look modern, but it's very dated. Bathrooms are adequate, but fixtures are 30 years old. Beds are super comfortable, but the lack of proper sheets (no fitted sheet and no top sheet) make turning awkward and leave you with cold feet by morning. The kitchen lacks basics, like salt/pepper and coffee, which make having meals at the home difficult without buying everything. Surfaces are clean, especially in the bathroom, but the kitchen had caked-on food residue on the cupboard doors, on the floor by the fridge, and on the garbage can and no kitchen cloth. We opted to spend most of our time at homes of relatives instead of being able to comfortably enjoy the house. Additionally, the yard had not been cleaned up from the fall and looked derelict among others in the neighborhood.

This has the potential to be a 5-star property, but it wasn't during our stay. We arrived at the house in the evening, very tired from our travels. It was after 10 pm EST (the time zone we were coming from), and we just wanted to go to bed. But when we got to the house, the furnace was turned OFF. The thermostat showed 12 degrees on the main floor, and it was much colder upstairs, probably closer to 8 or 9. I messaged the host, and he responded, "We can’t keep the furnace on all the time because we don’t know when guests will arrive. As you know, we don’t live there, so we can’t turn it on in advance for guests. You’ll need to turn it on when you arrive, and it will warm up shortly." You actually do know that guests were arriving today, because you took our money to reserve this date. It doesn't matter that you don't know what time we are arriving. We have it booked and paid for from 4 pm onwards. It's the host's responsibility to ensure it is in livable condition when guests arrive. Either go to the house and turn on the thermostat or install a remote one you can control from your phone. It took hours for the air, furniture, and floors to warm up. I was freezing the entire time. Other easy improvements: the dark curtains in the primary bedroom are not the width of the window. The fan in the en suite is so loud that a fire alarm could go off, and we wouldn't hear it. The fan could be cleaned or on a separate switch from the light so that it could be turned off.
