Holiday Inn Express Valencia Ciudad de las Ciencias3.0 out of 5.0

This is a standard old type HIE hotel (we have recently stayed in several new style HIEs which are really very good), very basic but clean and good value for money. The room size is only good for 1 or 2 occupants. With a rollout bed there is absolutely no room. I have read in their feedback to previous reviews that it is their standard room size but many times we stayed in bigger rooms in HIE hotels. Breakfast is also very standard for HIE. We are not big eaters in the morning and for us it was quite good in terms of food variety and quality. The breakfast area size is not enough for the occupancy they have, therefore they give you a slot at check-in which is not bad when you travel on business and can predict what time you will have breakfast but no good if you are on holidays with children especially with the time difference we had. So we had breakfast in the hotel only once. But they have some cafes in the area where you can have a relaxed breakfast any time you want. I can recommend this hotel for a short stay only and only if you prefer to be near the City of Arts and Sciences or you need to collect or spend IHG points. If none of that I would recommend staying either in the downtown Valencia or near the beach. We went in both directions with public transport and found it not very convenient.
We stayed for one night in a family room (Two kids and two adults) Family room was comfortable and clean. Not much room, but happy to be able to find a room for all four of us for such a reasonable rate. Great bathroom and tub/shower. Parking was just a little under 10 Euro per night for Holiday Inn members. Breakfast was good, and I appreciated the time slots they assign so it never gets super crowded. The pool was nice to have, though it is small and only open from 12:00-20:00. It would have been nice to get a swim in in the morning.
what was good- the reception staff were polite and helpful. Distance to the shopping mall with supermarket was absolutely ideal, the science centre and the oceanographic were walking distance ( very close). pool available ,so kids enjoyed. What was not so good- No professional electrician or plumber or a handyman to check if things are working properly. The ladies who clean the rooms ( very polite and gracious) were sent to fix issues like sorting TV channels, Stopping a leaking toilet, a leaking air con. It was like sending my mother to sort out technical issues ( I am over 40) so you can imagine what generation my mum is from. we were re roomed twice because of faulty stuff in the rooms. At 4.00am the fire alarm went off and all had to go down. this was put down as a technical issue ( we were on the 4th floor) , however my suspicion that someone was smoking in the rooms which caused the alarm to go off was correct. Would I go back- As I do not wish to back to Valencia , the Holiday inn is out of the question. Just to give you a heads up, hardly any one spoke English so it was a challenge to get information. but that could be looked at as a positive challenge too. we learnt enough Spanish to get by.
Stayed in this hotel for four nights in August 2017. The staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant, nothing was to much trouble for them. The room was comfortable and clean, shame there was no fridge or safe but this is an 'express' hotel. Breakfast was typically continental, nothing hot, bread, pastries, cold meats, cheese, cereal and fruit. There is a small swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers and a few tables and chairs. Bicycle hire available at a very reasonable cost, great way to go exploring especially along the old Turia river bed which is now a fantastic park. The hotel location is excellent, not far from the science park and only a couple of miles from the city center and the beach. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you Holiday Inn, we will certainly return one day.
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July 2017. Nice hotel with friendly staff. very close to science museum, umbracle and the aquarium. It has a big commercial centre next to it where there are a number of restaurants. Very small breakfast area.
Hotel is falling apart and was overbooked with families with small children. Breakfast queues were 15 min long to get a table. Food is of questionable quality cause myself, my daughter and few other guests got stomach issues. It was very pathetic to see that management in spite heavy traffic didn't put any effort to improve situation. They added 2 cheese options in very poor breakfast menu. Pool hasn't been cleaned for years and still people are swimming there...
I have staying in many Hi-Ex's and this is up with the best for room comfort, cleanliness and excellent staff. There is even a small pool which for us was great - not often you will find that in a budget hotel so I will not complain about it - used it, liked it and will do so again. The hotel is in a great location, very easy to reach off the main road into the city from the south and west and close to the City of Arts and Science. There is a big shopping mall next door and note shopping / eating options on the other side of the CofA&S. Downtown is reached by the number 14 bus which stops outside, hotel staff can help with this or by taxi for around 8 Euro. The hotel provides a perfectly acceptable complimentary buffet breakfast, this gets busy so they run a timed entry scheme which is a bit annoying but understandable in the circumstances Definitely will recommend to friends visiting Valencia, location, service and value tick all the right boxes
This hotel lived up to all expectations, clean, good staff and excellent Continental breakfast. The location was fine for us as we cycled most places and the beach was magnificent . Staff were lovely, local area was very Spanish great if you want to mingle with the Spanish and try out your Spanish or sign language, we had fun.
Excellent location for visitors to the Oceanografic centra, it is walking distance. Nice Shopping mall across from the Hotel. There is no metro stop for this hotel so a 10-15 min bus ride from Xativa which is the city center metro stop. Turia garden, Old city center and Mercado centra visit is a must. The breakfast arrangement is a bit odd as you will be given a time slot and it is very busy during weekends.
We stayed with known HIE quality, and this fit the bill. Good parking (fee), across the street from a good shopping mall, walking distance to several restaurants and the interesting Ciudad las CIencias , which we walked around. Two near by bus stops and front desk was helpful with what buses to take to go to downtown Valencia. Did that a couple of times and loved the downtown area. Hotel was clean, typical HIE fare.
