Mercure Hotel Amersfoort Centre4.0 out of 5.0

I picked this because it was near to Soesterberg Museum and wasn't too pricy. Got a special deal as I am registered with Accor but even without the discount it would have been cheap. Its right in the centre of Amersfoort but there is ample parking underneath the hotel. Better directions on how to get there would be good (even on their own website!) It costs 5 euros for parking which is a bargain... The room was nice and spacious with all the usual requirements plus a little fridge if you are staying for more than a night. We had a room which could be either a double or a twin. Lovely shower with two shower options - rainfall or hand. Staff were lovely and very helpful including the owner who we met on way out. The bar area was great and they did a limited menu which is the same as the room service one. Be aware that there is also an all you can eat buffet place on the same floor so be sure to go to the right one. The all you can eat place also has an a la carte. if you want to explore the staff are happy to advise on ideal places. Only 45mins into Amsterdam from the train station and if flying in you can get to direct to Amerfoort from Schiphol. Trains about every half hour during the day... All in all a credit to Mercure.
Considering what you pay for a smaller room in Amsterdam, Amersfoort is a much better value with large rooms and a good location. If you are ONLY visiting Amsterdam, Amersfoort is a short 35 min train ride. If you are seeing more of NL, then consider that Amersfoort has direct connections to the airport, Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam (and more!). The room was large and clean and the internet was great. Shower is fantastic! There is a supermarket IN the same building which is great and there is a very popular bar next to the hotel bar (not connected to the hotel). The train station is about a 10 minute walk...if you have very heavy bags it might be inconvenient. I would definitely stay here again.
I was here with the family with 2 kids (less than 2 y.o.). The receptionist suggested to upgrade the room with a bigger one. Good advice. Few bucks more and have a nice superior room with 2 baby cod and enough space for the staff... Good advice for dinner and places to visit.
New building/poor service. Needed extra towels, etc but were asked to pick up at front desk. What! Never had to do this in any other Mecure. Management rude when challenged Give this hotel a miss is you can.
The hotel is nicely located close to the city center and oppositie of cinema, supermarket etc. The rooms have a modern feel and are in a good shape and have the key things needed for a good night sleep. A real shame is that no loyalty points are awarded if you have booked via booking.com
We would have given the Mercure 5 stars as the facilities and staff are fine. However, the breakfast at a high cost of 15.5 euros let it down badly. The cold selection was fine and staff attentive. However, we paid up-front for breakfast for 4 days at 15.50 each, totalling 124 euros, a considerable amount. We drew attention of the staff the first day to the fact that the "hot" items were at best tepid and some were actually cold. In fact, the burners under one tureen were actually out of fuel one day. The staff said they would inform Reception of our issue, but no refund was offered on check-out. On contacting the hotel upon our return, we were offered a free breakfast next time we stayed, which was obviously a worthless gesture. Another couple in our group were also unhappy after one breakfast and went elsewhere and another in our group wisely also went elsewhere. This was a pity as the rest of our stay was fine and the hotel is in a good location around 10 minutes walk from the old city centre.
I stayed 3 nights, in one of the premium rooms. Very comfortable, clean. Great view across town. Close to restaurants and other facilities. The breakfasts in their restaurant were good, plenty of choices. However the evening meal wasn't so good. I know there are other choices close by but sometimes when working you want a quick option.
We stayed for 6 nights while we visited the surrounding cities in central Holland. The hotel is conveniently located a few minutes walk from the train station and also the centrum. The rooms are modern, bathrooms are spacious and I loved the rain shower. They did not give us any shampoo, conditioner or lotions. Instead they had a dispenser for hair and body wash. Minor issue since we brought pur own toiletries. We had to ask for extra towels. Again, no big deal. The beds are very comfortable. The reception was helpful. Parking is reasonable at 5€ a day. There is a buffet restaurant in the building and also two grocery stores. There was a minor misunderstanding about our reservation as we booked with a third party but it was resolved with no problems. I will definitely stay ay a Hotel Mercure again in other cities if they are as good as the one in Amersfoort.
What a beautiful hotel, with very friendly and helpful check in. The hotel is next to a nice supermarket, and is a very short walk to restaurants and shopping. The room was beautiful, and everything worked well. I would definitely stay again.
We stayed here one night while on a 3 week bicycle tour. They do not have any secure place to park your bicycle. The standard answer was park it in the garage with 500 other bicycles that is accessible by the public 24 hours a day. They told us "there are cameras". Cameras won't get our bike back if it is stolen. We ride an expensive road tandem and were not comfortable with the public parking. After a long discussion with Henry the manager he did let us store out tandem bicycle in a locked cage the restaurant uses. We have stayed in more than 100 hotels in Europe in the last few years and never had a problem finding a place to securely park our bicycle. The hotel could easily build a secure room in the parking deck. So much for the Netherlands being bicycle friendly. Otherwise this is a very nice property. Nice room, nice shower, nice bed. Great location.
