This was first time for me to be at Tunusia. When i am trying to check in there was a problem and lobby staff was rude. Then problem solved. First insight was not good. Rooms are average. On the otherhand there was an italian rataurant at the first floor and they were quiet good.
The Golden Tulip El Mechtel is an outstanding hotel and I could enjoy friendly and helping personnel. Smoking is allowed to cater for smokers which are abundant in Tunis, much to the discomfort of non-smokers. The hotel has good restaurants and the service is top. The Chief of Reception, Mr. Abderrazak Maadi made my stay the best in Tunis. Thanks for this.
The stuff is very friendly and helpful, hotel is good secured but the furniture is very tired and old. There are no variety of food on breakfast and lunch and the taste is not good. Hotel is 20-25 mins walk from downtown. The piscine is very tiny and small. It seems 3 stars hotel.
The hotel is located in next to a busy and noisy road, and the rooms facing it are quite noisy. Late at the night the traffic quiteness down. Security is impressive, the hotel is in a closed compound with security at the main gate and at the entrance in the hotel. The rooms are simple and could do with a thorough cleaning. While towels and bed linen are of good quality and the bathroom was clean, doors and windows would need additional cleaning, there are finger prints all over them. Also some undusting would do. The leather box containing kleenex was full of dust. There was a water cooker in the room and selection of cofee and tea and a complementary bottle of water. The breakfast room is dark and depressive, the selection of food is so so. No fresh lemon or orange juice is available, only simple white bread, limited jams and honey. There are pastries, sweetes, fruits, eggs, yogurth, fresh dates, selection of local cheeses and meat, but in fact perhaps the biggest challenge is the presentation of food. Also, if you are late some things might be finished. The resturant Afandi, where we had dinner, on the other hand was a nice surprise, nice atmoshpere and excellent meze. Staff in nice and makes effort to assist with any request or need from house keepers to concierge, security staff, drivers and staff at the reception. Staff in the breakfast room was perhaps less forthcoming.
This hotel needs serious upgrading, in infrastructure, but also in training of its staff. Restaurant is poor and depressing, rooms outdated, outside garden ok, but also run down...Tunis has better to offer. Not worth a 4 star rating !
The hotel is nice, the staff very help fully but the building and rooms are a bit tired. There are other hotels around which may be with looking at, the Belvedere just around the corner is worth looking at.
This is a good choice if you want a decent night's sleep in the city center, within walking distance of not only the zoo, but a great selection of restaurants, cafes, and street life. There are rooms with a view of the park. The price and amenities are more in line with a 3-star than a 4-star hotel, however. Wifi is free, but NOT a secure connection.
Excellent service all round with airport shuttle. A few of the staff can speak both French and English. Although rooms are air conditioned one needs to be prepared for the warm temperatures. Breakfast is excellent.
I had to stay 4 nights in Golden Tulip Hotel El Mechtel and it was a nightmare. The room is old and very dirty, 4 stars not even I dreams, the ac didn't work for the 4 nights despite I always called the reception and no other room was offered instead. The breakfast they say it's intercontinental, that's a big joke of hotel. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Everything is with European prices inside the Hotel so if u ask for a water expect to be charged 2€ instead 20cents just in front or in corner coffee shops... One time I decided to drink a cold and nice beer and it was freaking warm, I then called the waitress that was rude took the bottle and bring me the same bottle inside a basket with ice and I saw them laughing to us, so I just went to the center and drank a nice cold beer for 60 cents and left the 3€ one in the basket. It was one of the worse hotels I've been to without a doubt.
Great hotel adapted mostly for business...people are nice and very welcoming...they help you whenever you ask thep...rooms are clean..i recommend this hotel for business travelers..thank u for this good stay..
