When I arranged for my stay at the Clarion with Orbitz, I inadvertently scheduled a 7- instead of a 1-night stay. I didn't realize this until I got to the hotel. The hotel clerk could not guarantee when I checked in that the extra six nights would be refunded. Since I had not pre-paid my stay, it seemed logical to go across the street to the Hilton and get a room there. In the past, I have cancelled reservations with no pre-payment at the last minute with no penalties. The next day when I contacted both the Clarion and Orbitz, I was told that I was being charged for the single night even though I had not used the room. I would have been happy to stay at the Clarion if I could have been guaranteed a refund of the unused 6-day charges, but the check-in clerk, who had been extremely unhelpful when I had called earlier for information about the airport shuttle, would offer no guarantees. She, in fact, told me that I should contact you. When I did contact you the next day on three different occasions, I was told by all three women in customer service with whom I spoke, one a manager, that the hotel has the final say in negotiations over room charges. Each of the women contacted the hotel and was told that charges for the night I did not stay would not be refunded. So the Clarion clerk, doubtless on instructions from her manager, was feeding me false information. Orbitz has no jurisdiction over refunds. Because of this experience, I will no longer make reservations through Orbitz.
