Loose Moose | Private Riverfront Retreat

Loose Moose Lodge: Trophy Fishing & Hunting

Private Riverfront Retreat on 31 Acres | Fireplace, Game Lounge & Endless Montana Wilderness

Hidden deep in the stillness of northwest Montana, this riverfront sanctuary invites you to slow down, breathe deeper, and reconnect with something quieter.

Set on 31 private acres with over half a mile of Yaak River frontage, the land unfolds around you—towering pines, open skies, and the gentle rhythm of water moving just beyond the trees. Step outside with your morning coffee and wander to the river's edge, where trout rise in the clear, cold water and time seems to stretch.

Days here naturally find their own rhythm. Wander the property's trails, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, watch for wildlife, or simply settle into the calm that only true seclusion brings. Wildlife sightings are common, making this a wonderful destination for nature lovers and photographers alike. While hunting is not permitted anywhere on the property, guests may use firearms responsibly for lawful purposes, provided all safe firearm practices are observed at all times.

The Yaak River is well known for its brook and rainbow trout, offering excellent fly fishing as well as spin fishing right from the property. Popular local lures include Panther Martins and Wedding Rings, while traditional worms can also produce great results. Guests are welcome to fish from the riverbank, but all anglers must possess a valid Montana fishing license and follow current Montana fishing regulations. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officers do patrol the area, including private property.

Adventure continues beyond the riverbank. Bring your own ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, or off-road vehicles and explore the property's existing roads and trails. To help preserve the land, off-roading is permitted only on established roads and trails.

If you enjoy time on the water, you're welcome to bring your own canoe, kayak, paddleboard, or small motorized boat. Approximately one mile upstream and downstream offers enjoyable floating and boating conditions. About a mile downstream, the river transitions into whitewater where only experienced kayakers should continue.

During winter, the landscape transforms into a peaceful snow-covered wilderness perfect for quiet walks, wildlife viewing, or simply relaxing beside the fire.

Inside, the home wraps you in warmth and character with soaring wood ceilings, a striking stone fireplace, and inviting gathering spaces designed for making memories. The fully equipped kitchen includes everything you'll need to prepare meals together, along with stocked cooking essentials such as spices and oils, making it easy to settle in from the moment you arrive.

The game lounge—complete with shuffleboard, foosball, pool table and a handcrafted bar—quickly becomes the heart of the home, where laughter carries long after the sun sets.

Each bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with comfortable king and queen beds designed for deep rest after days spent exploring Montana's wilderness.

As dusk settles in, step onto the deck and simply listen—the river flowing nearby, the breeze moving through the pines, and the kind of quiet you didn't realize you missed.

For your convenience, a local store, bar, and restaurant is located just a few miles up the river, offering a small selection of essentials such as milk, eggs, and butter. For larger grocery shopping, we recommend stopping in the town of Troy, approximately 45 minutes away, before arriving at the property.

Please note that while the home is thoughtfully equipped with everything listed in the amenities—including a fully stocked kitchen—you'll want to bring your own outdoor recreation gear such as fishing equipment, boats, kayaks, paddleboards, ATVs, or dirt bikes to make the most of your stay.

Need more space for a larger gathering? An additional 4-bedroom home located next door can accommodate up to 17 additional guests and may be reserved for a separate nightly rate. Please inquire before booking if you'd like to reserve both properties.

This isn't just a place to stay.

It's a place to come back to yourself.

If you're unable to book today, we invite you to favorite this listing so you can easily return when you're ready to experience Montana's quiet beauty.

What an amazing property in a beautiful part of Montana. We had such a good time there. It had a well-equipped kitchen with anything we could possibly need including plenty of dishes and silverware for a large group of people. Huge refrigerator and freezer, large dining table and a large living room with fireplace. The house itself was over the top nice with four complete bedrooms and one little room for kids. It could very comfortably sleep four couples and several children. The outside was where we spent most of our time on the nicely furnished deck with its expansive view of the river and very strong WiFi. There were a few tables for dining on the deck, as well as numerous Adirondack chairs and lounge chairs. You could see the river from anywhere on this large deck, which had multiple levels, including seating down by the water. There was good brook and rainbow trout fishing in the river right off the deck. The property was a significant distance from any other property which made the house feel very private. It is surrounded by forest. Deer came by each evening and morning and flocks of Canadian geese flew by several times. The property had a separate building with a beautiful large bar, shuffleboard table, pool table and blackjack table. It was a lot of fun at night. The local tavern nearby is worth a visit. It had a live band and good food.We will definitely be back. I can’t say enough good things about this house and the surrounding property.
