Radisson Blu Hotel, Tromso4.0 out of 5.0

Although there are lot of restaurants in Tromsø the well prepared breakfast at Tromsø Radisson will refresh your life every morning. Staying there 5 days with family & my kids & parents enjoy it daily. Location is in central location with all tours & buses to all locations, ideal for traveller without driving. Rooms are not big but sufficient enough, quite & comfortable Staff are helpful to locate my missing stuff during room changing and checkout, definitely will visit again
A great addition to our cruise allowing a few more days in Norway and a chance to explore and acclimatise, comfortable room and very helpful staff even when we checked in from the ship at 0100 having been to a midnight concert
Stayed overnight in this hotel and was very impressed with the level of comfort and the very good breakfast selection. The hotel staff were friendly and the hotel room was very clean with coffee making facilities. We did not have to vacate our room until midday which meant we could go and look around the town and go back and get ready to go off to the airport. Very centrally located.
While there are no true five star hotels in Tromso, the location and quality of the Radisson Blu cannot be beat. Not to take away from other hotels where I have stayed--Thon Polar and Scandic--all were very nice, none were at the level of the Radisson which provides an excellent room and an unbeatable location.
The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre, & most tours commence from here or from the opposite Scandic Ishavshotel. The Flybus stop to & from the airport is also just opposite the hotel. Rooms have different views - some are good & face the lake towards the Arctic Cathedral, some face the road towards town, however a few face the opposite wing of the hotel & the bridge that links the 2 wings of the hotel. These are suboptimal because not only is there no view, there is also no privacy because people walking along the bridge can see right into the room & as a result the curtains have to be kept drawn all the time. I was unfortunate enough to be given one of these bridge facing rooms on the 1st night. I requested for a change, but the concierge told me no other similar priced rooms were available that day. The next day, I asked again, & I switched to a room that faced the lake (partially obstructed), but much better since I did not have to close the curtains all the time. Facilities-wise, there is a small gym & sauna. It is not 24 hours though, only open 0700-2200, which is a shame & I do not see why people cannot go to the gym in the middle of the night when they have time. Daytime, most people are out sightseeing, so what is the point of having a gym that only opens during the day. There is no pool. Surprisingly, there is also no hotel bar. There is a pub next door, but it was closed for Easter holidays.
We stayed at the hotel as part of a trip to celebrate a special birthday. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. I had emailed from the plane to arrange some champagne to be delivered to our room. Not only had this been done but we had been given a room with fantastic views. The member of staff that arranged this took personal pride in making things just right. Really good attitude not seen often these days. The restaurant was good and breakfast extensive. The staff again being extremely pleasant and keen to serve.
The hotel was in a great location. It was quiet and staff was very friendly. It was close to things so walking was good from this hotel. I would recommend this hotel. The room was big enough for a family of 3.
Pros: nice sauna, daily replacement of the bathroom toiletries and coffee / tea etc in the room. Very nice surroundings and everything was at a walkable distance. Friendly staff. Cons: no vegan breakfast available (excepting outmeal porridge ). We stayed there for 5 days and the food was exactly the same every morning. The rooms weren't cleaned . Also, be aware that the pictures the hotel shows aren't from a standard room, but from business class.
Usually i find it very easy to rate hotels but this was a tricky one. We arrived at midnight walking across from the Hurtigruten quay. Although we were travelling together 87 year old mother was on a different floor despite being first in queue from ship and asking for rooms at least on same floor. Apparently not possible as it was busy, however others from ship who were in queue behind us were just a few doors down? Anyway spent the night going back and forward in the lift to explain key card lighting, etc etc. Next morning going up to collect for breakfast, collect luggage etc. Lots of lifts and confusing layout. Not ideal. Breakfast was hectic, Every hot item was under a very heavy cover with no indication of what was underneath. So go with mother and help lift every lid till breakfast on plate. too long a queue for toast. Then back for myself vegetarian to lift every lid to remember what was available. Two ideas. One vegetarian food on left, meat on right. There were two serving stations. Just been in hotel in South Africa this worked very well. Two just put a little sign in front of each dish. Would speed things up hugely. Service of coffee was quick friendly and all of breakfast was good quality. Hotel in excellent central location. Rooms warm and comfortable. Check out very efficient. So nearly a five star, Tromso itself will definitely visit again. Not sure where we will stay though.
The hotel is in excellent location. We get fantastic views of the sea, mountains AND the Arctic Cathedral. It's within walking distance to all the restaurants and for meeting points for the activities booked!
