Opportunity to stay in traditional hotel.
We stayed in a Japanese room with futons on the floor. It was very dated , maybe there other rooms are better. We struggled to get more than a trickle of hot water from the tap.
We were half board and experienced traditional Japanese food. We are glad we tried this .
The staff spoke English and were friendly and helpful.
The Kurobe valley is beautiful. We are monkeys from our hotel window.
Wonderful stay at the Hotel Kurobe. It’s a little older property but well maintained. Staff and meals are excellent. Short walk from the train station but it is uphill. They provide a free shuttle which was very convenient with luggage

The staff were excellent, the hotel was clean but dated. Needs some renovation. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast was good but expected better to my taste. Have been to ryokans before and this would rate good. The staff were so nice and attentive to our needs, I just have to be honest.
Great onsen hotel just outside station with a shuttle van. Super friendly and the room seemed to be recently renovated and the hotel has some sections that we getting updated and will be even better for the next visit. Dinner was fabulous. Staff were awesome and the view was lovely from the room and onsen.
All businesses are known by the services of it's staff. Hotel Kurobe has some of the best people, namely Kurumi-san and Nakano-san. They helped us a lot and made our stay extremely comfortable.
Hotel staff were aware of the time our train to the Gorge would pass the hotel, someone was standing outside the hotel, waving at us with a big b'ful colored flag, that was extraordinary service.
Service Excellence in a BeautifulSerene Onsen-Town
A true sample of service excellence. Went to onsen last night but forgot my towel. The young cleaner, only two years in the job right after university, quickly left the floor mop and ran inside for towel. He spoke passable English. Then this morning met him again at the onsen before breakfast. We chat and I told how's appreciated the hotel writing personalised note to greet me on bulletin board but I don't understand Chinese. He profusely apologiZed even though it's not his responsibility to hostile direct handling guest. And about 2 hours later, upon check out, I was given this note. Such an examplary Japanese hospitality. And it doesn't have to start from the top notch officers to win customers. It starts from the cleaner boy!!! And thank you young Fukumoto-San for adding more beautiful colors to this wonderful trip.
