Crowne Plaza ANA Toyama4.0 out of 5.0

We stayed here for 2 nights during our holiday and found the hotel location is perfect, just in front of the castle and easy reacheable by tram or on foot from the central station. The hotel is quite classic with nice, clean and comfortable rooms.
I had business at University of Toyama so this hotel was a logical choice. It's a 5-10 minute easy flat walk from the station, and goes towards the university. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk to the university. But, if you want to take the streetcar, there is a stop, Marunouchi, very close to the hotel. The room was spacious, the shower worked well, and the room was quiet. Comfy bed and great view of the castle and snowy mountains. The staff are friendly and try to speak English, which is nice, but a bit 'stiff,' especially if you speak Japanese. 日本滞在、日本語を話せる外国人もいるってことを把握して頂きたい。。。The only minus point was they give you ONE teabag only. I carry an emergency teabag, but this is the first time in years of travelling that I have had to use it. Well located, very pleasant hotel, and I'd stay here again - with a teabag supply, of course.
I will start with the positives: Location, could not be better, your room will either have views of the snowy Alps or Toyama Castle; its clean (lilke everything in Japan); the staff is friendly (as everybody in Japan), and whilst weird having a massage chair in the room is fantastic albeit not very aesthetic . Now the reality: the property is well maintained but old, and when this is the case properties must really raise their game and focus on the things that can change (service and food). The staff have major lacking of English. The commitment of management into having this basic service is so low that the official in room massage menu (this hotel does not have a gym, more on this further down) does not even exist in English (at least not at the reception!) and the only English tv channel (BBC) does not work. Providing good service with such a barrier makes it really hard for the staff! The buffet: I just spent 2 weeks at the CP in Nairobi and again a dated property but their food was AMAZING, here they have the SAME buffet every evening, lucky I am staying only two nights because I don't think I could handle another night the unimaginative, dull offering the hotel has..... lastly the gym: I am the highest IHG frequent customer tier and spend more than 100 nights on the road and this must be the only CP with no gym. Asked at the reception for a place where I could go and they recommended a really swish one a block from the hotel, which I did try to use, tried because I was not allowed to run on my own runners because I have used them to walk to the gym.... CRAZY! I was told I had to rent a pair of runners if I wanted to use the facility which I refused to do. The gym would not back off even when I offered to take the shoes off and just put them back on on the treadmill. Despite that I had paid for 3 day package, even though I needed only one day, they refused. This is of course not the hotel's fault but had I known this hotel did not have a gym I would have booked somewhere else. Lastly housekeeping was extremely stingy with the complimentary water... this property has certainly a lot of chances to improve.....
I stayed 6 nights during a business trip. The service is excellent, every time there is someone trying to help you. Check in and check out quick. Room is standard for Japan. Points for improvements: Wifi with some disruptions and casual restaurant at first floor could have more options instead of buffet service. I would come back for sure.
I would love to stay again, very comfortable and location are nice! Nice restaurant and the good was delightfully tasty If you want to explore the city, you can get museum, castle, shopping center etc. all around the hotel.
I just finished an excellent 5 night stay at the Toyama ANA Crowne Plaza. I had a lovely and spacious (by Japanese standards) corner room with views over the castle in one direction and to the mountains in the other. Well located, the hotel is close to very many restaurants and a short 5 minute taxi ride/leisurely 15 minute walk from the main railway station. All the staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. I shall certainly stay at the Crowne Plaza again when I next visit Toyama.
Had a corner room, very nice. Breakfast excellent. Stayed a couple of nights. Tram runs just outside / up the road a little so you can use that to access some the city, station etc. The hotel also gave us two free tickets for four journeys that saved us 400 yen as a gift when we left. The castle is across the road and gardens. Nice views from the top bar of the hotel. We were chilled out and recouped from our London flight after staying here and ready to set off exploring the region.
Room was larger than in Osaka All staff both professional and friendly Room was two twin beds with chair, sofa and work desk Mini bar with beer, snacks and juice. 50% off for hotel chain Members Bathroom standard for Japan. Hand held shower and amenities Overall highly recommend Did I mention the view was the Toyama Castle!
The location of ANA Crowne Hotel is strategic - giving much convenience to guests. It is right in the middle of the city. A mere 5-minute drive from the Shinkansen train station. More importantly, it is opposite Toyama Castle, a perfect destination for tourists, rich in Japanese history. The room is clean and has much larger space compared to usual Japanese hotels that I've stayed in Tokyo. It has complete amenities and I really appreciate those small things for added convenience, such as number of coat hangers, presence of ironing board, Shiseido toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion). Check-in and check-out procedures were quick and hassle-free. Very efficient staff. Overall, I had a great time in this hotel despite staying only for 2 nights.
As a IHG Platinum Ambassador member, I had a 2 nights stay in Crowne Plaza Toyama. * As we had a late flight from Tokyo, the airport bus was not an option. The taxi would be the quickest and fuss-free way to arrive at the hotel. The ride was surprisingly not expensive at all. * We stayed in the executive room, which was newly renovated and large. It even included a massage chair! Interestingly, the bathroom did not seem renovated as compared to the other parts of the room, but it is of no issue. The normal rooms were quite small though. The executive room offered a spectacular view of the Japanese alps. * The breakfast buffet offered a nice variety of Japanese and Western cuisine, and was extremely affordable. * Opposite the hotel was the supermart for easy access to groceries and a nice selection of ice cream desserts. * To reach the JR station, it was a nice 10-15 minutes walk. It is also easily accessed by the tram. Get the ticket from the front desk. We enjoyed this stay in the Crowne Plaza Toyama, and we hope to be back again soon.
