I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to review Tokoriki Island Resort *aka Heaven on Earth*, as it was one of the most amazing trips and resorts I’ve ever experienced. I think I felt there was nothing more I could add to the already amazing reviews that were on TripAdvisor. So, I’ll go another route, giving you tips and tricks to make this the most amazing vacation of your life, and hopefully reduce any anxiety or concern you have about booking here. The resort is amazing, the pool is out of this world, the beach is beautiful, the rooms are outstanding, and the people are beyond kind. You feel a connection to them, and this magical place. Make sure you work hard to remember their names, they certainly remember yours, and you don’t want to feel bad or embarrassed that you didn’t make the effort. As we were planning our trip, we considered splitting our 8 nights to visit two different resorts. We were so glad we didn’t. There is absolutely no need to break it up and interrupt your pure relaxation, or leave this amazing resort. Additionally, we met a couple that did 5 nights in Tokoriki and 3 nights at a different resort. They were reluctant to leave Tokoriki, and when we ran into them at the airport afterwards, they said they regretting leaving Tokoriki to do the “over the water” bungalows at a different resort. So, if you are debating this idea, I say STAY PUT! Regarding the time of year, we visited for 8 nights the last week of February and first few days of March, and the weather was perfect. We had sunshine for all but one day. For the bungalow type, we opted for the Beachfront Pool Bure - such a great decision!! We used our plunge pool and outdoor shower regularly. One note, before arriving, I was super worried about the location of our bungalow in regards to how far it would be from the main area/pool/restaurant. Don’t worry about this - the bungalows are spaced out nicely with vegetation and trees to ensure maximum privacy for everyone. It was spectacular and I doubt there is a bad bure in the resort. Food is always a concern for me, since I am SUPER picky, I’m a pescatarian who prefers to eat vegetarian, and on top of that, my partner doesn’t eat dairy. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I didn’t need to worry one bit, and I know other reviews complain about seeing the same dishes on the menu a few times - I was actually happy to be able to have something a second time that I loved. We did the meal plan, and loved that we didn’t have to think about it again. Meals do take long here ~ you do an hour for breakfast, an hour and a half for lunch, and a two hour dinner. Meals were a major part of our experience, and we loved it. We also indulged in the 4 day unlimited spa package, which I recommend. This gives you 4 days where you get two couple massages a day. You are paired with a therapist and that individual works with you the entire week. The days don’t have to be consecutive, I think we did Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Make sure the spa is your first stop if you plan to do this, so you get the times you want for your treatments to work around any excursions you want to take. We usually did around 9am and then again around 3pm, which was fantastic. Now, on to the experiences we did, and my thoughts on them. 1. Private Beach Picnic - definite YES! We loved this experience, it is romantic, exclusive and just a fantastic way to spend one of your days. We were sad when the boat pulled up and dragged us off our island paradise. 2. Cloud 9 - Maybe. The best part of the exurision was the boat ride over where we stopped and snorkeled, and then encountered a HUGE pod of dolphins and followed them in the boat and photographed them for a long time. The bar/restaurant itself? Nothing special. The pizza was okay, but all the good lounge areas were taken when we got there, and the drinks were expensive. Even the 20 something’s that were with us wanted to leave early....also the snorkeling near the bar is not good. 3. Village Visit - Skip. While I wanted to support the local village, it was just an odd experience. The craft mart was basically the village folks mostly reselling trinkets made in China, the kava ceremony was odd (one guy was wearing sunglasses and seemed displeased we were there) and while the school visit was nice, it felt intrusive to come gawk at the villagers. I’d find another way to support the village. 4. Teppanyaki Dinner - YES! Food was great, and we had a fun group - 4 couples, all on the younger side, and we had a blast. I recommend doing this your first or second night, so you get to know some of the fellow guests. 5. Complimentary Snorkel - Yes. This is an easy thing to add in while you are lounging by the pool as it only takes an hour. 6. Castaway Island - Maybe. I enjoyed this excursion, as I do remember the movie and it was neat to see the filming location. Additionally, the snorkeling was good, however, the water was a bit rough the day we went, so the water wasn’t super clear that day, but overall, we had a good time. I highly recommend wearing water socks on this tour, as the sand was HOT, and there are bushes, sticks and weeds in the jungly part, and people were struggling as we took the tour of the island in bare feet. 7. Helicopter Transfer - Definite YES! This was amazing, and felt luxurious and made for a quick arrival and departure to and from the resort. A note for packing your carry-on luggage, make sure you have a swimsuit, a cover up, flipflops, change of underwear, toothbrush and something you would happily wear to your first dinner. Our luggage didn’t make it, but we were pleased that we had properly planned ahead (reference my Fiji Airways review if you want to read the entire story) and were able to enjoy our first day, despite the travel hassle. Oh, and what to wear? I dressed like I do in Hawaii, casual/swimwear in the daytime and a cute tropical sundress for dinner. Last thought, I was concerned at one point before our arrival that we would be “bored” being stuck on a small island for over a week as we are highly active people that are always on the go. Boy was I wrong - we started to joke that we were “so busy” between our spa appointments, 3 leisurely meals a day, watching the sunset from the pool area, getting enough pool time during the day to ensure we finished reading our books and relaxing, that we just didn’t have time for anything else! Our days consisted of the following schedule when we didn’t have excursions: breakfast, massage, pool time, lunch, pool time, massage, private plung pool time, shower, get dress, sunset at the bar, dinner, more bar time, bed. The schedule of my dreams......
From start to finish, Tokoriki proved to be a world class experience. I could write a voluminous review about all the positives, but bullet points will get the point across faster, and probably be more useful. -Main resort area; beautiful, clean, relaxing. Pool and restaurant overlook the ocean providing constant views. -Food: fantastic, its fresh, varied, beautifully plated, delicious -Rooms: stunning, all are beach front, well maintained, serviced twice a day, leaving you really wanting for nothing. -Staff: after everything else the staff are what makes this place. They are so friendly, helpful, easy going, and make this resort a world class destination. -Helpful tidbits: Don't need to worry about tipping, it is not accepted here. Instead you can make a cash contribution if you would like at the end of your trip to the "Christmas" Fund. No Wifi in-room, but is accessible in main sitting area. We loved this in order to unplug. No TV's anywhere really. We also loved this. Tap water comes from a desalination plant onsite so tap water is safe to drink and use.

Sometimes you read something online and wonder if it's truly worth the hype. "Really?", you might think "Could it truly be THAT great?". Well, I'm here to tell you after 5 absolutely blissful days: Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it really can. Tokoriki Island Resort is an oasis in an archipelago filled with big franchise resorts (looking at you, Sheraton Tokoriki), screaming kids, or backpacker dives. Nothing is wrong with any of those, but if you truly want to escape from the world for a bit, this is the resort for you. Let's start with the grounds, which are immaculate, truly well decorated, and inspire a level of tranquility and warmth that cannot be surpassed. Given it's exclusive, intimate feel, one never feels crowded out, even in high season. Everything from the grounds to the dive shop to the pool were world-class. Then there's the food, which is seriously world class. An example: Most buffets serve middling, 'okay' kind of food, but not at Tokoriki Island Resort. No no, they serve the highest quality ingredients. Even the buffet sushi tasted like it just came from Nobu in California or Jiro's in Tokyo. I don't know how they do it, but it is that good. To top it all off, the service was truly, truly out of this world amazing. If you're hesitant because the resort isn't a brand name like the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, don't be - the quality of service and staff here are just as good, if not better than either of those. They not only remember your name, but truly treat you like family for your stay. There's a level of sincerity and genuine authenticity in the way the staff treat you that I cannot articulate; they seem to truly care and love their jobs taking care of you. Contrast that with the Sheraton next door, who feel like a gang of indentured 'smile-or-else' hostages in comparison. So there you have it: Expensive, yes, but worth it? Every penny.
A fabulous place to completely switch off from the world where you can feel the tranquility immediately. Enjoy exceptional food and wine; scuba diving trips and unlimited massages. Speaking of massages, they truly are the best!
From the moment you arrive at Tokoriki Island Resort, you feel at home. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place to stay. The villa we had was large, with it’s own plunge pool. Fabulous outdoor shower, separate bedroom and large deck. Very clean and tidy. All the staff at this resort, make your holiday one to remember. A very special thanks to Kris, Dee, Sadu (hope I spelt that right), Chef Ashim and Noa. You will not be disappointed with the meals, Chef Ashim and his team produce some of the best meals we have ever had. The 2 hour snorkelling experience around the reef, is a definite, to put on your list. Cannot thank all the staff enough, for one of the best holidays in Fiji.
Weve been to Fini a number of times and stayed on a few different islands but Tokoriki was the best yet.
