It was overall a good experience except that the AC needs to be upgreaded or fixed in order to also work during summer! Great staff and service! Excellent and convenient location as it is only a 5 minute walk from the Jena West train station. Food is good and the bar is reasonably well-stocked!
What is great: The location, 5 minutes walking to the old town; the breakfast buffet (you can also order fresh eggs any style) including real hot water for tea, fresh orange juice and delicious local cheese and sausages; the very friendly stuff; breakfast is available from 6.30-10.30 am - awesome! What is average: The drinks provided from the barkeeper; the room size What is terrible: quality of mattresses which leads to back pain in the morning; the double bed in reality are two single beds, moving very easy; the shower is varying water temperature from 35 to close to 45 degree celsius; rooms located to street side - there is a small park very close to the hotel peopled by antisocial habitants in the nights - drinking beer and singing at 1,2,3am in the morning - we woke up 2-3 times each night; some travel groups carried by busses to the hotel - we experienced 2 huge busses at one night and 3 busses at the other night of your stay. Conclusion: It's hard to find relaxing sleep due, specially for couples....the mattresses were the worst ones we experienced in any hotel on this planet. The great stuff and breakfast can't compensate theses shortcomings.
Modern, sharp and a fantastic location. This is my preferred hotel after five visits to Jena. It is steps away from the trolley, shopping and Museums. The fun continues just outside with local crafts and food. The hotel is about a five to ten minute walk from the train station.
Great staff, hearty breakfast buffet, great service staff in the restaurant and hotel. They'll cater to all your needs, and answer your questions. Parking is a little tight in the garage, so bring a small car!
This is a solid business hotel. I would not come here necessarily for a romantic holiday, but it is comfortable, reasonably priced, and centrally located. The staff is quite helpful. The only oddity is that the reception is on the ground floor and the lobby (and lobby bar) is on the third floor. You take an elevator from the reception to the lobby, where you change to another elevator for room access. The 3rd floor lobby has a nice bar area. It also has a separate smoking lounge where people would enjoy cigars. Don't worry if you don't smoke. It is segregated in such a way that you don't get a whiff of the smoke. The facilities seem relatively new and its quite good. If you are there on an invitation from the University, you can get the University price which is exceptionally good.
My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the hotel and I have to say price wise is OK despite breakfast was not included. The location is perfect, right in the city center and next to Goethe gallery and shopping area. Jenna is a small city but I heard this is the best hotel to stay in town. Out room was clean, spacious and comfortable. WiFi connection is very good as well.
Overall poor value for money. Staff were unhelpful, rude in some cases. Food was very poor quality, to the point we did not pay for one meal. Car parking charges as a guest were excessive Rooms too hot!
Very centrally located and a very good bargain. Very professional staff. Don't bother with the suite - not worth it. The restaurant serves very nice food. The bar is quite lovely - although many other bars are within easy walking distance.
The Steigenberg hotel in Jena is located in close proximity to the city center and it’s adjacent to a modern multi-story shopping center that houses a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Virtually all of the city’s tourist venues and most of the best restaurants are only a short walk from the hotel. That’s good because Jena is a very historic university town that is best explored on foot. Being conveniently located close to everything is a real plus. I found the Steigenberger to be a very good hotel. The rooms were spacious with high ceilings, so they seemed even larger. My room was actually more of a suite. It had a separate living/sitting area with TV, a bedroom that could be closed off from the rest of the suite and the bathroom was large. The sitting area and bedroom had very large windows that let in a lot of light, but didn’t have much of a view. The bed was very comfortable. The restaurant served an excellent breakfast that was pretty reasonably priced compared other hotels at which I’ve stayed. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how nice and helpful the hotel staff were during my stay. Everyone tried to make my stay as pleasant as possible and I really appreciated it.
located in the center of beautiful jena. very nice hotel, the elevator brings you to the lobby (a little bit strange, also as one can smell the hotel garage even on the 3rd floor), the bathrooms may need a makeover soon with some mold in the corners, however overall a high quality business hotel with an excellent breakfast selection!
