Property is at good location with good view. Close to Varkala. But wear and tear, needs a serious upgrade, polish , furniture upgrade to charge high. Service staff needs to be trained, need good manager. Food is not properly displayed, needs serious makeover in food services..over all i would rate it as poor by taj standards.

Had a peaceful stay. Its a small resort with less than 35 rooms; we had one on the first floor. Pool is right in front; beach is down a nice walk as hotel is on a cliff. Food was slight bit of downer; wait time was high on all days and all meals.

Excellent start at this lovely hotel to our trip in India. Staff excellent charming helpful and professional. Lovely place to relax after a long flight. Good selection for breakfast. Lunch available if required. Drink restricted to beer or wine. Dinner menu good staff helpful to advise.

The only way I could get my wife to return to India was to book a quality hotel You cannot compare it to hotels like in Dubai because you will be disappointed However book the sea view superior room and it’s fantastic for India The breakfast is only ok and a short walk to north cliff gives better alternatives and a little exercise The staff are great and we will stay again Alistair

We have stayed at this beautiful resort in april 02-04. It was a truly mesmarizing experience. The reception staff were very welcoming and efficient check in. Staff were very friendly and courteous at all times, specialy the Front office manager Ms. Aswatha & Sarath The f&b service was always attentive, food was varied and delicious. A good buffet selection for breakfast. Big thanks to chef ratheesh for the packed fruits for our kids. Over all experince was wonderful and memorable. Thank you Taj varkala.

Stayed here for a few times each time it just gets better and better food is amazing the staff are so friendly and work so very hard no complaints chef will make you anything you need even mild curry "think chef did have a laugh with mild ......."brilliant hotel fantastic staff special mention to the garden who dose an amazing job but hard to single amy one out everyone was totally awesome just a big thank you and see you next year x x

This resort is built on a hill with reception and pool at the top of the hill and the room taper down. While the resort itself is beautiful with lot of amenities like a play area for kids, bicycles, a nice pool, we felt the service could have been better. Even after requesting for an early check in, we were made to wait for an hour and a half. Once we arrived at the rooms, the housekeeping staff apologised and said he had forgotten to add the pillow covers! Lunch was a 2 hour long wait for mangalore fish curry and appams and what we got finally was not very appetising. The fish was rubbery and the appams were rather stale. The location of the resort is good and it’s a short walk from the beach.

We stayed at the Gateway for 6 weeks from mid January and cannot fault this excellent hotel. We have been coming here for the last five years and have always had a fantastic time. Everything about this hotel is excellent. All the staff go out of their way to make sure that we are well looked after and all our requirements are met. The hotel has excellent facilities including lovely rooms, delightful grounds, early morning Yoga, a tennis court and they will also help with tours and excursions. Rooms are cleaned to a very high standard. Despite the comments of some other reviewers on here the very best asset of this hotel is the pool. Not many people realise that it is filled and refreshed with natural well water, which is filtered organically, without chemicals, and is a delight to swim in. There is no horrible chlorine smell at all and the water is clean, soft and fresh. The food is just perfect and always freshly cooked by an efficient team of Chefs who will adjust dishes to suit individual taste. The head Chef has designed an extensive menu featuring dishes from all over Kerala together with some North India favourites. The waiters are very knowledgeable about the menu and will give advice and guidance on the various dishes. It would be impossible to list all those who made our stay so enjoyable but suffice to say that everyone, from the GM down, contributed to making our holiday absolutely perfect. Thank you all very much indeed - see you next year.

Gateway Varkala is one of the most beautiful Taj Properties I have seen. The view of the Arabian Sea from the hotel lobby would take your breadth away. The cool breeze from the sea would remove your stress. We were greeted on arrival by neclaces made of shells and fresh coconut water. The neclaces were lovely and I have kept them as mementos of my visit. The hotel gardens were maintained excellently. There are a number of indoor activities like cycling, basketball, chess, carrom board etc. The pool overlooking the ocean was very relaxing. The sky at night was absolutely clear and you could see a number of stars. The approach path from the hotel to the sea is full of greenery and quite short. The food was excellent. The architecture of the hotel is unique and quite amazing. In the morning we saw a mongoose family playing on the lawns. My wife had an aurvedic treatment at the hotel and came back very happy and stress free. The hotel staff gives you personal attention and goes out of the way to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. In case you want a relaxing, peaceful, luxurious and comfortable holiday at a beach destination then you must go there.
