Poovar Island Resort

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

This property has been operational since the year 2000. The only resort which has floating cottages. The location is fabulous and probably the best in poovar. The resort has several amenities and also has a great Ayurveda Centre with skilled therapists. They serve some really good south Indian and North Indian Cuisine. A visit to the beach and exploration of Mangrove forest is a must do thing.

Hotel is well located. But its not well maintained. We were given some dirty cottage, on request they changed it to the best one. We feel the hotel needs some upgradation. View from the room was amazing :)

Poovar Island resort is very nice property .we really enjoyed a lot ,quality of food was excellent .floating cottages are unique concept, but the room with a beach view is amazing and very refreshing.Nice & friendly staff ...over all we loved this place

There are mixed reviews on tripadvisor about this resort. We were little hesitant to book, but finally we found it fit what we were looking for. The resort is in an island and you have to take shuttle boat to reach there and takes 15 min to reach there. Dinesh was our host there and received us graciously and took care of our needs. On the first day we decided to just enjoy the hotel and relax there. Based on the input from the staff we signed up for the massage too. The breakfast was excellent and the varieties is mind blowing. The staff was very helpful in serving us. The lunch and dinner was good too, no complaints there. We took a whole body massage and was similar to what we expected. There are various massages available that you can signup for. We wanted to visit Kanyakumari and Trivandrum temples, hotel staff arranged the car for us. Backwater trip is excellent too, you can see eagles, kingfisher, and other exotic birds. My daughters are still raving about the trip. Resort has some activities for kids, swimming pool, archery, and gym facilities. Swimming pool does get crowded on some days especailly weekends and I wish hotel staff is little strict on dress code. Some people jump in without proper attire, which can be embarrassing. Being an island water is hard, so be prepared for it.Ignore the negative, you will surely enjoy the place.

The property is nice and clean, but mind you to reach the beach you have to depend on the resort to take you by boat its just less than 75 mtrs from the resort. But the staff there are very rude and if they are in short of boats they will give you big excuses like there is a "cyclone in the horizon".we called up the trivandrum met department and they said there is no cyclone warning ,when we confronted the staff with this information they came up with another story that the local police department has issued a warning ,which we couldnt verify. Finally the next day they took us to the beach with one security guard who did not allow us to touch the water or take a stroll on the beach.we just stood there for ten minutes and returned to the resort.

The resort is one of the best I have visited in India so far. Huge property with a lovely view of the Backwaters. The rooms and the food is very good. The property is well maintained and the staff is friendly.

No. 1- The food is pathetic and the staff is really rude.... We had orders for 3 dosas and guess what tgey came on a same small plate on to of each other Everything here has salt - like swimming pool, water in shower and drinking water

Fòod is average in buffet dinner but if u pay then food is very good service is average less staff I think show and room are average and boat drop and pick up is vast because less speed at come to there schedule time

Yes, Poovar island resort is really "Out of the world" location! We stayed in poovar island resort on 22/05/17 and 23/05/17 and it was a wonderful experience! As we entered the check in boat jetty, we were greeted by lush green well maintained garden from which, we could imagine how beautiful the actual resort will be! After waiting for boat for about 15 mins, we reached the resort. The resort is really a nice piece of art which is very much natural, green and lavish. Rooms are also too good and your staff (especially restaurant) is very friendly and helpful. We liked the Kerala papads served along with the every meal / dinner. All other dishes like malabar salad, soups and other dishes give real taste of Kerala food cooked in authentic coconut oil. Last but most important: We especially liked the "champakam" flowers which are available in abundance in the resort. The fragrance of those flowers is ultimate and rejuvenating to mind. This resort is ideal place for nature lovers. We will definitely love to visit poovar island resort again!

Nice property, though the rooms need maintenance. Floating cottages are unique concept, but the room with a beach view is amazing and very refreshing. Dinner buffet was wide spread including the Keralite cuisines which were tasting just awesome, nice feeling to have with water all around.
