The hotel is right on the lakefront with the 10 km Great Lake Walkway at your doorstep. It's about a 35 minute walk to town - a good distance to work up an appetite for breakfast. If you're not into walking you can drive it in about 5 minutes. The hotel has two restaurants so you don't have to go anywhere. Just enjoy the view from the restaurant or your own balcony. The service is always good here. Many of the rooms are accessed via external walkways which isn't great if the weather is bad. On my recent visit my room was very cold when I arrived. I turned on the heat pump but it took a while to heat up. Luckily the very cosy bar was serving mulled wine so I stayed there until bedtime! The bar staff are lovely. I have breakfasted here before and was looking forward to it. Alas it was a weekday and they were not very busy so the choice was quite measly. I wouldn't have minded but they still charged $30! Next time I will take that walk into town.
Beautiful hotel. We were upgraded to a mini suite for our honeymoon and out of all the hotels we stayed in during our trip this was the only one that recognised we were on honeymoon by upgrading us and providing a small bottle of champagne and chocolates in our room. A really lovely touch. The view from our hotel balcony was lovely overlooking the lake. Even though we were at the start of Cyclone Cook it was still beautiful. We stayed for two nights and the rooms were clean the pool area was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. On one night we ate at a pub up the road and the food was superb. The second night we found an olde english type pub and again the food was lovely. The shops were lovely in Taupo and the lake beautiful. Highly recommended.
Those wanting to absorb the atmosphere of Lake Taupo should consider dining right on the shore at Manuels. The food is excellent and the vista out over the water is second to none. Whether it is a lunch break or fine dining, the food here is exquisite
I stayed at this Hotel for the first time in April of 2017. This is a small luxurious hotel with absolute lake front views. The room I had was upstairs and had a private balcony looking straight out over the lake. You could almost touch the water! There is a nice swimming pool and a very "interesting" grotto spa pool reminiscent of the grotto at the Playboy Mansion (in a fake cave setting). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was also very nice (although a little small) and offers a reasonable buffet breakfast. The restaurant also looks straight out over the lake. This Hotel is about 5 mins by car from central Taupo, but the absolute lake frontage more than makes up for not being right "in town". I would definitely recommend this Hotel and I plan on staying there again on my next trip to Taupo.
This hotel has a perfect setting on the edge of Lake Taupo. Rooms on the bottom floor allow you to walk out your door, and across to the lake which is about 15m away. A walkway runs back to town along the lake edge, which is easy walking distance. The suites were lovely - very large and extremely comfortable. Good breakfast also, enjoyed while overlooking the lake.
We spent two nights at this hotel towards the end of a three week comprehensive tour of New Zealand. Our agent had booked it for us as part of our itinerary and we hadn't really known what to expect, but it was lovely. We had a suite right at the end of the hotel with patio doors opening directly onto the lake front so the views (especially in the morning) were spectacular. There is a constant stream of walkers and joggers along the path though so keep the curtains closed if you have the lights on and you don't want them looking in! The room was very comfortably furnished and very well equipped and the bathroom spacious and spotless (so I assume there is some refurbishment going on as I certainly didn't feel it was tired or dated as some reviewers have said). The hotel is some way from the centre of town but we walked out for dinner on both nights (we never eat at hotels if there is an option to go out) and it was a really pleasant half hour walk along the lake front path. It was quite dark on the way back though so we came along the road. There is so much to do in and around around Taupo we could happily have spent a week here.
The perfect start to our honeymoon and a fabulous introduction to some of the loveliest places in New Zealand! The hotel is situated perfectly on the lakefront and is only a 5 min drive from the city centre. All staff were lovely and knowledgeable and went above and beyond for us - special mentions to the wonderful Robyn and Gin for their friendliness and excellent recommendations and advice - you made our stay extra special and we can't thank you enough! The views are just breathtaking and we loved the heated pool and grotto! We didn't eat at the hotel except for the coffee and cake deal some mornings when we woke up late (money saver option for breakfast!) as the menu was a bit pricey and there was only one vego option. But the coffee and cakes were nice! Some people have said that the hotel is dated- we stayed in the dated area but found it charming and of a high quality! The complimentary champagne and choccies were a lovely touch! Thanks to all the team at Millennium Hotel and Resort Manuels for your extraordinary level of service and comfort. You've set the bar very high and we are sad to go!
We stayed here as one of our final days after spending a year in NZ and overall I would say that this hotel is very tired and needs some updating. The first room we were shown was nothing like we saw on the website when we booked and we were quickly moved to a bigger more modern room. The room seemed modern but the bathroom was very old and worn out. One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was to use the gym. What a disappointment, there is barely any equipment and what there is doesn't work properly. There are no towels, no water and no air-con. This hotel shouldn't even advertise a gym it was that bad. The pool is nice - slightly too warm. It would be nice I'd there were sun loungers rather than a few chairs. Overall we always look at what we have paid versus what we receive and this place didn't warrant the extra money that it costs to stay here.
We booked on line on the basis of reviews and some nice photos. The location is lakeside so you can't get much better than that. The hotel structure itself looks quite old. Whilst the rooms are ok and comfortable, the bathroom is original nineties which means really small with a really small shower Prices should reflect that it's out of season but at $200 a night it feels like poor value. Hilton up the street can be got for the same price.i don't know what else you can get for the price and certainly looking around Taupo apart from the Hilton most of the hotels look old and tired. Anyway Taupo is a great destination so don't let the hotels put you off. The staff were very welcoming
The Millennium in Taupo has a great location with stunning views of the lake. Lovely waterfront walks, great restaurant and wonderful, down-to-earth service. The heated pool is a great way to relax. The rooms are dated but adequate, and good value. Free parking and WiFi. Get an upstairs room for privacy (from the many people biking and walking along the waterfront) and enjoy the balcony view with a glass of wine and the afternoon sun.
