Lakeland Resort Taupo3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed one night here. The hotel was a bit further out of the main resort centre than expected but it wasn't an issue as we had a car. The hotel is set back from the Lake but we could see it from our room which was nice. The rooms were basic, but very clean and had all the amenities you needed. The staff on reception were very helpful and friendly. We decided against eating dinner at the hotel as the restaurant seemed to lack atmosphere but I'm sure it was fine. We went out for the evening and ate in town instead. A good base for exploring the area - lots to see and do and of course Huka Falls is nearby which is a must see! A good, comfortable stay.
We stayed here for 2 nights to spend new year in Taupo. Our room was modern and clean with a good sized TV. The friendly staff at reception were helpful as I needed to use the laundry facilities. Not having used a hotel laundry yet in New Zealand they were happy to advise and provide change. We ate in the hotel restaurant on both evenings. The food was really lovely and good value for money. The hotel is around 2 miles from the town centre so it was close enough to go out for a bit on New Year’s Eve but close enough to see the fireworks at midnight on the lake from our balcony. I would recommend this hotel when staying in Taupo.
The Lakeland Resort was OK. Reception was fine - friendly and polite - and offered me a chance to use the private hot tub right away. The hot tub, was just warm, and it was a bit difficult to get the top off the tub and then back on, so was not as relaxing as it might otherwise have been. The grounds of the motel are well-maintained and lots of pretty flowers in bloom. The outdoor swimming pool was fine, but definitely needs a rail to get in, as the stairs are uneven and it is difficult to gauge the depth of the water. I found the location to be awkward, as I was travelling on InterCity bus and it is a long hike and an expensive taxi ride to get to the motel from the town centre. The room itself was pleasant and quiet, aside from a stuck sink plug, which I did mention, but which was not dealt with. The woman at reception asked whether I would like to eat dinner in the restaurant, but no vegetarian options were available. Breakfast was very disappointing and at $20 pretty expensive. If I were to do it again, I would likely research more and find a place closer to town with a lake view.
Great welcome at reception. Room was very clean but dated (very dark decor and bedding). Beds were soft and old so woke with a sore back. Beautiful new bathroom but shower head very low for tall people! Smokers in rooms near us so had to close all windows and doors on a very hot day. Should have a designated smoking area like most places I’ve stayed. However, good value for money. I would stay here again!!
I had booked through booking.com for the first time so was a little nervous that they wouldnt have my booking when we arrived. I neednt have worried as they had the booking with price as quoted. Room was very comfortable, shower pressure very good. We dined in the restaurant for dinner and the meal was extremely good. The reception staff and restaurant staff were all extremely friendly and pleasant. No complaints at all
In Taupo for one day to attend a funeral, so just wanted a place to sleep and shower in the morning. This place suited us well, especially as we got a good deal from Expedia. Clean, comfortable beds. The grounds were pretty. We didn't try the restaurant.
We quite enjoyed our two-night stay at the Lakelands Resort. Our room on the ground floor was clean and quite comfortable, with a nice and clean bathroom and excellent WIFI. The only thing one might criticize was the flimsy door lock, which I guess wouldn’t offer much resistance to a burglar. We can also recommend their restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious dinner!
I've stayed several times at the Lakeland Resort and have consistently found it to be a great place to stay. The staff are friendly and while the rooms are a little dated the rooms are warm and clean and the beds comfortable. The Wifi available is good and I was able to easily stream video services (netflix) and hold video conference calls.
My daughter and I visited Taupo in their spring. The rooms were fine but restaurant was awful - $20 per person for runny eggs and other basic stuff was a rip-off. Better to stay there - and take the good long walk to town (by water and pleasant) and have coffee and breakfast by the harbour where there is a fantastic hut with good food and service with a smile. Neat town to see things from
We had a group stay here and the price is what attracted us. Everyone was able to spread among the rooms comfortably. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was lovely to eat in and our group also enjoyed the spa's onsite. Location is lovely with the view of the lake across the street, it is also a very quiet motel. Rooms were compact and beds a bit soft however for $100 a night (twin share) it was definitely value for money. Thank you Richie and the team for a stress free stay
