The old town, which is well worth seeing, is located on an island where remains from the Greek era can be seen. Stroll through the narrow streets and alleyways and discover the cathedral. The Castello Aragonese is a must-see, as is the Lungomare promenade with the government building and the preserved columns of the ancient Temple of Poseidon. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello, the towns of Grottaglie and Martina Franca and the Terra delle Gravine Regional Nature Park are good excursion destinations.
